I went to DTD today to take some photos to add to my collection.

Upon arriving I noticed visitors using the walkway to the MP instead of the bridge through PI. Much to my shagrin PI is now closed until 7pm each evening. When did this happen? I asked the 2 bartenders at Jack's Marina and they said it had been this way for several months now due to weak sales at the shops and eateries.

Also the Gourmet Pantry is closed and it is plastered with signs for the "Earl of Sandwich" and "Goofy's Candy Shoppe." I hope they do not eliminate that like they did "Goofy's Grill" to make way for Ghiardelli's. GG had the best burgers on WDW property (IMHO).

The closing of the pantry marks a sad day for me. I would always buy my beer in there ($1.75 - $2.50) instead of paying $5.00 at the snack stand.

There is a thread about the closing of Gourmet Pantry on these boards somewhere. There are quite a few of us who are sad to see it go.

As for closing PI til 7:00, that doesn't surprise me. It wasnt closed in Oct/Nov but that was quite a few months ago.

I believe the 7:00 closing happened sometime around late March as it was something that had happened just before my trip in March-April.

  The Gourmet Pantry has closed?!?!? Where am I supposed to get my giant rice krispy treat bars with chocolate on them on my last dat at WDW?!?! (and my DD's grilled cheeses for that matter!) :( :(

I was at the Gourmet Pantry for my last sandwich this past Saturday. I hope they reopen quickly since the pickings for a quick bite to eat at DD are slim to none without it!!!!

McDonald's just doesn't cut if for me!!!

I share your pain, Lisa, at the thought of missing those
Rice Krispy treats with chocolate .........

If not at DTD on last day, consider these places
(they all have them)..........

at Conch Flats (in Old Key West),
at All Star Resorts' food courts,
at Roaring Forks (snack bar at Wilderness Lodge),
at Magic Kingdom candy store (name escapes me)
at Town Square

I'm sure there's more....those are the ones I remember
when I need a fix. ENJOY!!!
Be glad you live close enough to drive up so often!
As an ex-Palm Beach County resident, myself,
I wouldn't blame you if you head up to the World
every other week or so!!!

My dd's said one of their favorite memories of our stay at Dixie Landing's our last trip (2000) was every night they'd get one of those rice crispy treats. So, I'm pretty sure they are available at POR too!

I'm pretty sure they are available at POR too!

WE stayed at Riverside in May and they had them there. I was VERY tempted, but got ice cream to share with grama instead.

As for the closing of the GP at DTD, I am also sad to see it go. I heard from a friend who works at DTD that part of it will remain a candy shop, and the rest will be the sandwich shop.

I think those krispy treats are also available at Seashore Sweets on the Boardwalk.

And I've always been able to find a yummy grilled cheese at the food courts at the All-Stars and PO.

I am a little disappointed in the closing of PI during the day b/c there were some shops there that I hadn't gotten to check out yet, and I don't want to pay admission just to go shopping in the evening.
