Thinking of switching to the Wedding Pavilion

We are scheduled for our vow renewal at Sunset Pointe. I'm concerned about silly stuff, I'm sure, but I'm afraid of it raiining for one. I know they will move us somewhere, but I dont want to be shoved into some conference room with no romance, magic, etc. I am also wondering how we do our first dance and the mother/son, father/daughter dance at Sunset Pointe. Is there electric there? Will they supply a CD player for our music?

Also, from what I understand all WP brides have their cake cutting, etc. schedule at some terrace at the GF. Anyone know if that is true? If so that sounds very pretty.

So, I'm considering throwing out the extra $800 (what's another $800 at this point!) and changing to the GF Wedding Pavilion. Anyone have any thoughts?

I think that's a very valid concern, I think if you're having your vow-renwal during a time of year where it rains more often maybe the pavilion would be a good choice. The back-up location for sunset point, from what I've read online is the King Kamehameh Suite. As for the music, some brides simply requested a stereo to be there for the cake cutting. You can ask your EM to bring a battery powered one if there is not an outlet on site. I think the wedding pavilion is beautiful just from pics I have seen, and have heard that it's even more so in person. Happy planning! :goodvibes

There are real differences in the "feeling" of those two locations - both are lovely in different ways!!!

On a clear day, with the castle in view across the water, sunset point is breezy casual sunshining beautiful spot in nature.

The pavillion is formal, elegant, traditional, obviously not a church but more of that type of setting.

What is the backup location for Sunset Point if it rains? I had a rained out VR at Sunset Point in 1998, and back then they moved you to a room on the first floor, but that room is gone. It actually was nice, but not like being outside. Thankfully, the rain cleared quickly and we still did our pontoon boat "get away" for pictures and got lots of beautiful outdoor photos.

I had a not-rained out sunset point VR in 2003, and the pictures are spectacular! Some of the best pics from any of our ceremonies. It was a perfect sunny day with outrageous fluffy clouds, couldn't have been better.

Obviously you can't know too far in advance if it will rain, how late will they let you change your plans? And also, what else if important to you about the "feeling" of the day? Are you wanting something more formal?

I had the same concerns and so decided to have my renewal at the Wedding Pavilion. I don't regret that decision one bit. Here is a link to the thread with our pics if you would like to see the reception area.

You said you also had a concern about music.

At sunset point, we had a violinist for the ceremony and for the cake cutting.

At the wedding pavillion, we had the organist for the ceremony and a violinist for the cake cutting.

We are doing the Pavillion again this year, pretty much because our kids like it the best, it feels the most "special" to them, and they want to ride in the Coach again! :goodvibes

I'm having mine at Sunset Pointe. I was told they don't have any sound system so I have to bring my own. I just got the cheapest smallest one I could find at Best Buy, like 30 bucks maybe. The other option is if you pick something the violinist can play they'll do that you only need a stereo if your using a cd, most people just use the violinist.

I looked at the WP but my problem with it was it's just toooo big. I just felt that my wedding would look undersized in the photos, because of how few people would be there.

Hope this helps.

I would love to ride in the coach--but that is definitely not in my budget!

As far as music, we need a CD player as our song is Wonderful Tonite (Eric Clapton) and I don't think the violinist can quite capture that for us. Also, my daughter wants to dance with her daddy to Butterfly Kisses. I will dance with my boys to "Let them be Little". And, we're going to finish up with "Beautiful" sung by Wayne Brady on the Jim Brickman CD. The words of these songs mean the most to us so we definitely want the CD music played.

Also, I believe at the pavilion we can have our pictures taken outside as well, with the castle in the background so we will still get that outside feel.

I am definitely leaning towards the pavilion, I think. I just have to justify the expense in my mind. DH says he would prefer the GF as well, but he has no idea what the whole scenario is costing!! :rotfl:

Yes, you will also take "outside" pictures at the Pavillion, the one you see alot of people post is on the steps under the arch with the castle in the background. You can take pictures, on the beach, in the courtyard, on the bridge walkway, lots of places!

I think, because the music is so important to you, you should do the WP. Playing a CD on the hill for cake cutting at Sunset Point won't have the same effect as on the Terrace after your WP ceremony.

If you want an outdoor ceremony, hold it outside of the Wedding Pavilion at Picture Point (or whatever its called). That way your backup location will be right there at the Wedding Pavilion. ;)

As to the additional cost of holding a ceremony at Picture Point / Wedding Pavilion, look as it as "insurance." The peace of mind it will give you will be well worth the cost, in my humble opinion.

No matter what location you choose, I hope your ceremony is magical.

I agree--it will be worth every penny if you can justbe happy and worry free the entire time--I say follow your gut and go with the WP.

We actually scheduled our wedding at the Yacht Club Gazebo and then my fiance thought of the same things what if it starts to rain. So we moved it to the WP and we don't regret it, it was worth the money. After the ceremony intimate brides go over to the GF to Commanders Terrace and that is a very nice spot also. We brought a CD for our first dance and they provided a small CD player to play the song and the violinst played the mother/son dance songs. Everyone that attending the wedding mentioned how beautiful the WP was and you can see the castle from the window. I would say if you are worried about it and the $ is not a problem - go for it.
