Hello everyone

My DH and I are considering renting points for a stay in a DVC resort; but I have no idea first....how much it would cost or how would I do it. Can anyone out there help. TIA:thumbsup2

You can just go to our DVC Rent/Trade Board and post in any of the threads offering to "rent" points. By contacting one (or more) of those members you can give them the dates, resort and type of villa you are interested in renting and they can let you know what terms they expect to make a reservation.

You are free to negotiate the terms so they are comfortable for you and go from there. Things like price, deposit and final payment are all negotiable.

I'd suggest reading the **How to use this Board** thread at the top of the Rent/Trade, as it it includes some good suggestions about how to proceed.

Good luck! :)

thank you.... now my biggest fear.... can I count on these posts being legit? I hate to ask or not trust; but its a lot of $.

that's the tradeoff. you get a cheaper price BUT you are dealing with an individual. if the individual is a scammer (very unlikely) or hits financial trouble and stops making payments and their reservations are canceled (has happened a couple of times), you would not have a safety net as if you were dealing with disney directly...

whether the tradeoff is worth it is up to you...

Renting needs trust on both sides, a DVC owner will always be the holder of his reservations up until you check in at the resort, pretty much all you can do is checking is a reservation exists on-line with the reservation number.

On the other hand, the owner has to trust that you don't damage anything in the rented room and that you pay your bill at the resort for things charged to the room.

The rent board here won't give you any guarantuee about an offer being legit, but since a certain number of posts is needed to be able to post offers on the rental board, it at least shows that the renter has been active here for a while.

Another possibility would be to use an agent, like Davids DVC point rentals (he advertises here) where the agent will hold on to part of your payment until the check-in date.

You may find someone willing to book BEFORE any payment (all depends on how close to travel dates and the renters UY) You can at least verify on line that the reservation number is good. That does not mean that the renter can not cancel later. Bit you can check regularly. I would also expect a renter to offer to assist in setting up you dining plan and Magical express. If they don't, it would be a warning sign to me.

As stated above, it is a trust - trust issue. I have points I am debating booking or renting, but I have my concerns with resting out points.

The dining plan has to be paid for when it is added to the reservation. So if you, the non-member, wants me, the member, to add it to your reservation, you are going to have to pay me for it to add it. Or trust me with your credit card information. Or let me say, no dining plan, just too much trouble.

Agreed, but it is something I would expect the member to 1) let the renter know that DP and ME are available and 2) assist in setting them up if the renter wants them. If I were renting points andthe member did not want to assist in those two items, I would go elsewhere.

I wanted to rent and didn't know where to begin either. I knew David was well thought of on DisBoards so I went to his site (David's Vacation Club Rentals). I just booked a reservation the other day and it couldn't have been easier. I am WAY, WAY low on points and wanted to add 3 nights next fall. While I have obviously not yet used the reservation, I was really pleased with how quickly David completed the reservation process. By the way, all his rentals are $13 per point with a 44 point minimum in most cases. Total was $600 for the three days - about what it would have cost for a Mod room over the same time period.

I just looked at that website before I send any $ I really need to discuss this with DH. We so want to stay at BC again this year; but without a discount the room only is so expensive. By renting a studio we may actually be able to swing it.

Do you know if you have to send the $ and if your request is not available they send it back or will they check for availability first. I didnt quite understand.

You pay a $91 refundable deposit and at that time send in the room type (studio, 1 bedroom, etc), desired resort (up to 4 ranked in order of most desirable to least - you can only list one, if desired) and dates. Then, if he matches your request you pay the remainder (which is NON-refundable). He got back to me within 2 hours of member services opening (he doesn't book on weekends or holidays and I submitted it on Jan 2). If he doesn't have a match, you get your deposit back.
