thinking of going to orlando solo

so after several friends constantly letting me down on planning a trip back to orlando i have decided to take matters into my own hands and just go by myself so at least i no i cant get let down.
ive always like the sound of going there by myself because i can do what i want etc but i havea few worries....

firstly i will be staying on international drive is it safe to be staying in a hotel by yourself??
and secondly what about eating in resturants? i dont really want people saying stuff because im eating alone as im going to enjoy myself



any advice would be very greatful

I went alone in 2007 and people at dinner were actually conversing with me which made it alot easier.Just go and have fun don't worry and you will have a great time.

I have travled to WDW solo more times than I can count and I always have a great time. I usually stay on property so I have no experience staying on International Drive. I'm sure everything will be fine just watch your surroundings. I also enjoy trying new resturants and never once did I consider what other people might thinking when I was eating alone. I usually have a book about WDW or a map of one of the parks with me while I am dining planning out my days adventure so I am not really not paying attention to others.

I've done a bunch of solo trips to WDW and one over to DLR and they were all great! I've found that people are super friendly and I chatted with a bunch of people since I was alone and didnt have to worry about boring the ppl I was with! Disneys a pretty safe place to be solo, dont know anything about the I drive though!

I would only stay on Disney property doing an alone trip. This doesn't mean everyone feels this way. I feel Disney has better security and that does comfort me.

I've done one solo trip so far as a senior citizen female and I will say when coming back from later nights and walking to my value resort room I was looking all around me even on Disney property. I had a preferred location and I was still very cautious.
I don't want to spend the money for a room within/inside the resort like the Deluxe resorts.

I like the fireworks the best at Disney and you never get to see those shows early; you come back at later hours. I did have one funny moment during my week's stay returning to my mom; I did feel uncomfortable. It was nothing, but your thoughts can get the best of you. You can creep yourself out.

If you go only during the daylight hours to the parks you might be okay offsite.

If I do this again I think I may consider a Deluxe. I'll try to get a room closer to the lobby or whatever. I'll wait for a good room discount and then book the trip.

I've been disappointed the same as you with friends and relatives saying they would like to go and then when you need to make reservations they seem to back out. I'm lucky and I've been over 40 times through the years and I live in the Midwest. It seems as I've gotten older it has been harder to find companions. My hubby is not fond of going there again, but he will do it for me. I would like to find someone I'm closer with to go with to Disney that would enjoy it better than him. I do think it's more fun with others.

I had a decent time on my solo trip and under the right circumstances I'll do it again.

I have been nervous about doing my first solo trip but the more I read the boards, the more I am looking forward to it. Like others here, my friends have no interest in Disney and my family are too far away. I am making lists of all the stuff I want to do and am glad that I won't have to worry about having tension with people who don't want to do what I want to do. I am lucky because I am only a 4 hour drive away, and I think I will probably start doing 2 to 3 solo trips per year. Yay!

I have stayed on International Drive many times throughout my life and I probably would not choose to do that on a solo trip. When I stayed at All-Star Sports a couple weeks ago, I was walking around by myself a lot at night and I felt very comfortable. Lots of families and cast members walking around well past midnight.

I am trying to decide between AOA or POP for my September trip. I guess it may depend on whether the free dining offer happens and what the availability is like.
