I woke up this morning (well, actually, DD woke me up) around 4ish, stumbled downstairs, flicked on the light in the bathroom, and was greeted by an enormous grasshopper on the wall, right next to the light switch.

After I managed to peel myself off of the ceiling, I realized I had to actually deal with it, because there is no way DH would drag himself out of bed at that hour to dispose of a bug for me. I grabbed a newspaper and thwacked the wall, which, of course, only irritated the grasshopper, who then jumped off the wall and onto the floor. We then proceeded into this bizarre dance, me wildly whacking and screaming, the grasshopper frantically hopping and fluttering.

After an eternity of this, my cat came sauntering by, looking for an early breakfast. Since she has an excellent track record killing and eating palmettos :crazy2: , I threw her in the bathroom and closed the door, sealing the bottom of the door with a towel. I tell ya, I knew I kept her around for 15 years for a reason. She definitely earns her keep.

Is there a support group for survivors of grasshopper attacks? I still have the heebie-jeebies, 4 hours later.

Isn't it funny about bugs? Some are rescued and released, others smashed to smithereens. Lady bugs, moths, AND grasshoppers are caught and released at my house. Sometime crickets also, if I can get to them before the cat, she thinks they are a toy.

:rotfl:

I can picture the cat coming out to see what the racket was all about an can imagine his surprise when he was thrown into the bathroom.

I need an on call kitty. I'll have to start training mine. I'm on my way to throw her in the bathroom now.

I always catch and release grasshoppers and crikets. I'm not a brave person but these things don't bother me.

I'm glad you escaped the monster grasshopper moinab.
