I just had a DW trip in March, and had decided that I would love to go for my 30th birthday (January 2013).

The problem is that I am having a hard time finding a friend to go with. Which has be debating whether or not I should just go solo. It's been a tough internal debate.

I have no problem doing things solo in my everyday life (seeing movies, eating out). And honestly, I can get a bit bossy when it comes to planning DW vacations because I have a specific plan in mind of what I want to do.

So why not just go solo? There's still something that makes me hesitate. Maybe it's the fact that I'd be spending a birthday alone.

I just am not sure what to do...

I'll go with you! LOL

But seriously...if you enjoy doing things on your own, why not? I did a solo trip to Disneyland back in 2006 and it was FANTASTIC. I love to do things on my own, and Disney was no exception. I would go on my birthday if I had the opportunity...do something extra special on your birthday like Cirque or a fun tour or something...

First, welcome to the DIS! Second, go! You won't regret it. 30 is a big milestone, requiring private and personal reflection, and hugs from a Mouse. Pick out a couple of things that you've wanted to do and haven't because of other peoples' travel choices, and give them to yourself as a birthday present.

I went to Disneyland solo for my birthday last June and had an absolute blast. For me the biggest hurdle was that I'm a twin and we'd never spent our birthday apart before but TinkLoverSam couldn't get the time off work and had a DL/DCL trip planned with her hubby in October so it seemed like too much. I went solo and had an awesome time! I planned some special meals and also met up with another Dis-er there for a (partially) solo birthday trip. Just plan out the things that are important to you and have a blast. Make sure to get a birthday pin for lots of birthday wishes and the chance of some surprises!

I'm thinking I'm going to do it. I have a friend who wants to come with me, just not for the whole week. I figure I can go alone, get in some tours and things I want to do, and then have my friend join me later in the week.

Thanks for the advice! I feel more confident of going now! :cool1:

You won't regret it. It's wonderful to do your own thing and then be able to share some of what you've discovered with a friend. I'm doing the same thing in January 2013!:cool1:

I love doing things alone. Not in the sense that I like to be a loner, but it allows me more opportunities to speak with people I wouldn't normally talk to. I also like being able to do what I want and not have to worry about it..

This is not to say that I don't take pictures and text people while I'm there.. but that's mainly to show off. :)

I totally agree with all posts above! Treat yourself to an extra special birthday celebration, wear your birthday pin, and only feel bad when you think of those not fortunate enough to be able to celebrate their 30th in such grand fashion!!! And I highly recommend you start your special day off in the Magic Kingdom on the “Keys to the Kingdom” Tour!:thumbsup2

I have always wanted to do a solo trip for sooo long and I also have had the same thoughts as you.. but I finally decided that I'm finally gonna do it in september and I cannot wait!!!! So many people have given such great advice!!

I agree. Everyone has given good advice. I haven't booked yet, but I definitely am planning on doing a solo trip (or at least partial solo trip) for my b-day.

I think doing part of the trip by yourself and part with a friend it the perfect plan, especially when you mentioned doing tours when your friend isn't there. I never thought of that. When I bring my friends, I don't want to take them on tours the first time - takes too long, may spoil the magic. How awesome that you'll have the best of both worlds.

Now you have me trying to figure out how I can accomplish that and I think I might have the perfect plan. SO has never been to Disney, and I couldn't think how to get him for at least 3 years, but next spring he's going to FL to golf with the boys - Maybe he and I can do Disney for a few days, then he can drive down to meet them and I can stay by myself - Oooooh....I'm so excited at the possibility.

Thanks Ebkrist - You've made my day. Have a great time and Happy Bday.

I am married, have a 12 year old son, and have been making annual solo trips in December since 2008. LOVE IT! I always tell them it makes me a better wife and mother. :bitelip: I love my solitude, don't mind eating at restaurants solo, totally not shy and just really enjoy the entire experience. I do tours and shows that my DH and DS whine about. I can lay out at the pool, reading a book or snoozing, without checking to make sure my son hasn't drowned with 6 lifeguards watching him or been kidnapped for ransom. :goodvibes And no cranky DH complaining about the heat or the game is coming on or crowds are too heavy. :hyper:

BUT, I'm always ready to go home and be with them. At least for the first week. ;) [just teasing]

First of all, I think it's FANTASTIC that you're planning a Disney trip to celebrate your big three-zero! Congratulations and Happy Birthday, by the way! I am two years away from my 30th myself and I am already planning my birthday Disney Cruiseline experience!

Don't be afraid to go alone on your birthday. If I know anything from working there for several years, it's that Cast Members LOVE to make people's birthdays special! You won't feel alone with all the attention you're getting. :) Just make sure you wear your birthday button!! :p
