thinking about suprising my other half with the safari at AKV, has anyone done this before? was it worth the cash? and on the other hand, in everyones personal opinion, is concierge worth the points?

Which safari are you referring to, the morning breakfast safari at Animal Kingdom Park or the evening dinner safari at Animal Kingdom Lodge? I have been on both safaris and enjoyed them!

The morning safari was really nice, relaxing, we saw a lot of animals and were able to take wonderful pictures since the safari trucks didn't drive as quickly. The breakfast that was included at Tusker House was tasty, but I'm not a fan of breakfast buffets. There were a lot of kids running around the room and their parents just didn't control them. I remember thinking it was too hectic to be so early in the morning! As for the price, I thought it was a good value for the price paid.

The evening safari at Animal Kingdom Lodge was my favorite of the two and was fabulous. It was just amazing to view the animals at the resort from just a few feet away and see a different perspective of the resort itself. The meal at Jiko is delicious but everyone in the safari eats together at the same table. I'm not comfortable eating with strangers so I felt like I couldn't really relax and enjoy myself at that point. The price is very expensive and has actually increased since I took it. I think it is overpriced BUT it really is a wonderful safari to take. So I would just splurge and take it once then never take it again if it is in your budget.

As for whether it is worth using points for concierge, I really can't say since we're taking our first points concierge trip this December. The last time I was in AKL Concierge, we weren't DVC members and just paid cash.

. . . . . . I'm not a fan of breakfast buffets. There were a lot of kids running around the room and their parents just didn't control them. . . . . . .

Are you sure you aren't thinking of Hollywood & Vine, or Boma, or 1900 Park Fare, or Crystal Palace?

Same kids - same parents. :sad2:
