Thinking about going solo....

I have a chance to go on a work trip to WDW the third week of Dec. It would be my first solo trip and I'm wondering if I should go for it. I've looked on here and seen others gush about their experiences and I think I would like it. It would only be for 3 days.

I'm just wondering if I might get weird looks for being alone, espiecially during the holidays. I also have a disability and may be using a cane. Kinda nervous about the whole thing.

I'm going for my first solo trip Dec 12th 18th this year. Don't overthink it - jump in with both feet and make your plans. It doesn't matter what other people think (and like my mother said, "What makes you think you're so darn special that everyone is paying attention to YOU while THEY'RE at WDW?")

Go for it. I did my first solo trip almost a year ago and I can't wait until I can do it again. No will give you weird looks. There are many solo travelers to WDW. I like the fact that I could do what I wanted when I wanted without having to worry about anyone but me. I ate at several restaurants that I had been wanting to try. I took naps when I felt the need. It was truly a great trip for me. Even hooked up with someother disers for a Wishes cruise.

I'm doing my first solo trip next May and cannot wait - the worst bit for me is going to be the flight as I hate flying, but I cannot wait to get there, do what I want when I want, eat where I want without having to consider anyone else.

I was nervous about the same thing my first solo trip (although my first was to DLand). I saw TONS of what appeared to be solos (since I was sensitive to look for other solos)...and of course would gravitate towards them in a line and would ask if they wanted to share seats on the ride we would both happen to be in line for...ya know what...most were not solo travelers...they had just split from their families for what ever reason. Mom took kids back to hotel for nap while dad kept having fun at the parks (or vise versa)...family couldn't agree on rides so would split so each could do their favorite that the others didn't wanna do...husband was golfing while the little wifey hit the parks. And every one of them assumed I was 'alone' for a similar reason.

Even if you do run across a family that figures it out (and actually cares that you're solo)...this is Disney! Folks are happier and friendlier than they would probably typically be at home...I was invited to dine with a very lovely family, watched a parade with a single mother of a very adorable little girl, and shared a raft with a dad and his two kids on the Grizzly River Run over and over again while his wife was watching the parade. If you're open to the people around you and don't close yourself off...who knows what adventures you might find with complete strangers while at the parks.

Not at all. I carry a small backpack purse, slip in my map and a book , notepad for shopping , camera, and guide if I need one.
People are for the most park eager to laugh and chat with you in line and at meals.
3 days is good, because you don't have that long period of time to worry about " can I do it".
I found it very liberating. Linger over things you've never had time to before. Go for it... what's the worse that can happen?
I had a great time and had a lovely time chatting with CM's and others from all over.

I can't wait to read your post after the trip. I imagine you'll be saying "I found my tribe!".

Disney does a better job at ADA compliant facilities and Christmas decorations than anybody, so there's two items off your list. As far as weird looks, since when is weird a bad thing? We're all weird!

While various portions of this December's trip happen to coincide with the trips of a number of my pin trading friends, I've done this trip many times on my own (and will be on my own again for a few days at the end of this trip). December is my absolute favorite time at WDW - I love all the holiday decorations and performances. The Candlelight Processional is my favorite holiday activity - and I'm doing the dinner package by myself one day. I've also been to MVMCP numerous times by myself - love Holiday Wishes. I also enjoy making the rounds of the various resorts to see how they are decorated.

While I enjoy travelling with others, I also like being on my own. If I want to get up early and be at a park for rope drop...I can do it. If I change my mind and want to sleep in...no problem. I can eat where I want, whenever I want. Good stuff.

And....get a dinner package at a place like Germany where you will join a group...80% chance they will be great to share dinner with.

Consider getting a ticket to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party one evening...the parade alone is worth the ticket but so many other fun events, shows, and of course unlimited access to most Disney rides in MK...you can do Haunted Mansion 10 times if you want, as well as Pirates or Other favorites...

Well....I've decided.......to go for it!

I'm still freaked out about it, but I want to do it. It's such an awesome opportunity for me career-wise, I just don't feel I can pass it up.

I'm thinking of going on Nov. 29-Dec. 3 instead because around mid-December, it tends to snow around here and I get freaked about being in planes with bad weather. (Me and hubby were nearly in a plane crash last time)

I'm going to stay at either All Stars Music or POP. I've been online looking at the dining selections and found most of what I wanted except for Le Cellier and Chef Mickey. But, I did see an opening at Kouzzina!

Good for you for taking the solo path. The career move alone is awesome. Couple that with a few days at the world and it makes for an awesome trip. . .

In case you care, my sweetie and I will probably be at the world at this same time. We would love to have you join us for a meal. . .It will be another week before we work out the details of our stay but wanted to put that option out there. . .we love meeting new people. . .

Definitely take advantage of the work connection and have fun with the trip.

My kids are down there right now with their mom and I am very jealous. A friend suggested that a solo trip weekend would be the cure.

Glad you decided to go for it. Have fun! I was solo at Disney on Christmas Day this past year (by choice) and received no strange looks for it. The Christmas holiday season is a good time to be at the WDW resort.

I totally think you should go. I have been a million times solo for long weekends, since none of my friends like Disney much. I have never felt weird or uncomfortable and everyone is friendly. Most people are too wrapped up in their own fun and action to worry about others around them really.
