Thinking about Christmas gifts...

So I've tried searching this, but not getting far. We have DCL planned for June 2018. It's a much anticipated trip for us and would like to try to get the kids excited around Christmas time. We aren't surprising them with this trip (most threads I did turn up while searching for info covered this!) but I was hoping I could come up with fun, meaningful cruise related gifts to get them thinking ahead (or at least planning / saving). Maybe too far out but looking for ideas here....

Has anyone tried doing cruise related gifts 6 months before?

For sure Disney Gift Cards and maybe savings jars? Any other ideas or is it just too far out to try much else?

Lanyards? Magnets for your door or a magnet making kit? Disney shaped candy?

How old are the kids? If they're small, you could get them stuffies and a themed jar or piggy bank. Start off the collection.

Disney themed pajamas or other clothes they may wear on the cruise. There is a pirate night, so you could look for pirate costumes after Halloween and purchase them on sale (Bonus!) and give them as Christmas gifts.

Maybe also get a nice cup for them to carry around on the cruise. Maybe a personalized Yeti? I know there are Disney Tervis cups, but we have learned the hard way (living in FL) that sunscreen ruins the plastic. It's not a great idea to use them when sunscreen may be present. Haha!

Kids will be 12, 9 and 4. All have been to WDW at least 1x. Like the lanyard idea! Magnet making kit is an Etsy purchase or a real craft kit? Thanks!!

Sun glasses, flip flops. How are you fixed for luggage and cameras?

Sun screen is necessary (just keep it away from the Tervis cups.)

Oh this has happened to a few of our sport bottles... Didn't know what did it (thx for that, haha). Good idea on the tumblers!

Maybe order some DCL t-shirts or have some special ones made?
Planning to do this, will just have to determine if I should do for Xmas or wait because it didn't occur to me to do this early but why not?! See! That's why I posted, thx!!

Yes and yes to PJs! Pirates too... Kids are suddenly really into PoC movies (putting newest movie on the list!). Thx

If you don't see any on the online Disney store, check out the Disney shopping app...you can generally get theme park/cruise line merchandise that isn't sold in the stores. Unfortunately, have to use phone/tablet but I've ordered several things that way when space was a premium getting stuff home from WDW.

Disney picture frame with a paper inside giving them a choice of one special picture from the cruise to go in it?

Our trip is not until next August but I already am planning on several DCL items for the kids this year. I have done this for past christmas’s also. I search online at the Disney store and the Disney parks shopping app - for cruise - and I usually will buy them pins and clothing. Hoping for a cute bathing suit this year for my little one. The Disney parks shopping app really has nice things cruise related!

We have kids close in age to yours, 12 and 9 at the time of our trip.

We're getting the door magnet off of Etsy- Jedi Mickey.
I'm also having tumblers made for each of us, we use them around the house so it's something they can use right away.

As for Cruise excitement, while they know we're "saving" for it we still haven't booked. I'm hoping to make the fact that we've booked it part of one of their gifts. I'm thinking gift cards for the boat or maybe a photo of the beach.

Love the picture frame idea. I may have to do that for myself as a way to remain excited.
