:( due to the hours for June!! We expected the parks to be open to at least 10pm for the summer not 7-8 pm and then a e-night. Does anyone think there is a chance that they will make the hours longer?? I know they have changed the hours at last minute, but this does not help us at all since we get hyped up about going and o all this prior planning.... any comments?

Just seen the July hours - we thought we'd brave the July crowds to take advantage of the extended hours - many nights in July MK closes as early as 9pm. I know the recession has hit Disney hard but it can't be this bad can it???

Not defending Disney here, but I read a while back that they set the hours based on resort capacity and estimates on crowds. Supposedly they set the hours so you can do 8 major/rides attractions in one day, if I am remembering correctly.

While I agree that night touring is fun, it's possible that the crowds just still aren't there for them to justify regular hours later in the evening. I read a thread on the Resorts Board that even with POFQ closed, there is still availability in June at 4-5 Disney resorts. So they aren't full.

Yeah in 2000 and earlier they were open till midnight and later. They also experienced record crowds in 2000 and possibly 99.

Again, not defending the decision, just trying to be informative. Personally, we can't handle a commando schedule, and our kids are still young enough that late night hours aren't a make-or-break deal for us. Maybe it is for you.

Good luck with your decision.

Last yr we went in June, the hours on the Disney site didn't match the hours they were open. They also added an additional enight during the time we were there. Not to meantion fireworks every night. It was the second week of June. None of which was on the official website before we went.
I think they est. the crowds at the resorts but if locals are coming out and making it more crowded they extend hours. JMHO.

Sue:

Where did you find the July hours? I've been looking! We arrive the last week in June and stay till the 10th of July.

I've never understood why MK gets the earliest closing hours(besides AK) during the cuts. It is the favorite park among most AND the most crowded. Why not close MGM before MK? I don't get it.
That said, we will still be there in a few weeks:D ! Can't wait!

Last year was also the 100 Years of Magic. Fireworks were on the schedule for every night.
I agree that WDW is flexible with the schedule and they do modify as required as demand goes up.

"Probably b/c of Fantasmic! Just a guess."

But why have Fantasmic every night? We don't get Spectro and fireworks at MK every night! Hey-we love MGM, I am just mystified why it is more important;) !

Fantasmic is more popular than Spectromagic.

By the way, if some of you want to cancel your trip due to the posted Magic Kingdom park hours, then go ahead and do it.

It all depends on your approach to visiting the parks. We were at WDW in April(before the Easter crush) and found that the earlier closings weren't that much of an issue. We stayed onsite and arrived at the parks before opening(early entry) every morning . By 12:00 we had done all the major things we wanted to do. In June and July, I would think you would want to spend the afternoons somewhere cool and relaxing. The heat would defininetely zap most of the energy out of my family anyway. The limited fireworks schedule did effect our itinerary some though and forced us to go to the MK on a Saturday night which would not have been our first choice. It was packed but we stayed close to the front of the park and left after the fireworks were over. Make wise use of the Fast Pass system whatever you do. Good luck in your decision.

Jane - the July hours are on the intercot site

I actually think it is more popular because it is easier to see, no fighting crowds on the one night a week it is there. That turns off many.
We also always stay on site and utilize EE. Usually done by 1, but we sometimes like to go back in the evenings. Like I said earlier, we can't wait! We will be at CR, so it would be easy to go back later. We will probably do 2 early MK days this trip and avoid going back there in the evening(since they won't be open anyway). :D

I think if a bunch of people have that same thought then there is no chance the hours will be extended. I say stick it out!!!

Last year we went end of June for two weeks. The posted June/July hours were not anywhere near what the hours really were except on July 4th. When we went at Easter this year again hours didn't mathc the actual hours. I think they base hours on expected crowd size and then adjust as necessary. I doubt the parks will close that early on all of those days.

I thought Spectromagic is more popular than Fantasmic. From reading the board...It seems like everyone is dying to see Spectromagic...and they get upset if Spectro doesn't fall during their stay.

I just hope that when the time gets nearer that they will extend the hours and do have more Spectromagic and Fireworks. More E-nights would be nice too!!

>Last year we went end of June for two weeks. The posted June/July hours were not anywhere near what the hours really were except on July 4th. <

I was in WDW from 6/20/02-6/24/02. When I made my reservations in April, the website MK hours were from 9-10 every day with the exception of 6/21. There were fireworks every night.

The website hours for BB were from 9 (or 10) -7:30 every day. My daughter and I arrived at the FQ at about 2:30 and then headed for BB which did close at 7:30.

Did the hours at MK change from the website; yes, they did. The 6/23 (Mon) hours changed from a 10:00 closing to a 12:00 closing. The 6/24 changed from a 10:00 closing to an 11:00 closing with an E-night that night.

My point to all of this is not that the hours never change. They do. My point is that the hours came out much earlier last year and there were no 7:00 closings for any nights in late June.

Universal Studios has had their June hours out for months thereby allowing plenty of time to plan. How are we supposed to make a PS reservation at let's say The Crystal Palace when we aren't even sure what the hours are going to be.

Will the hours change? Probably, but there is no guarantee.

Someone I know just got back last Saturday (May 3rd). She said the night they were at MK it closed later than what was posted prior to when she left home.

So, even last week Disney did adjust the hours to keep MK open later. I believe there will be longer nights at MK in June.

There are more complaints about Spectro because Fant does happen every night. If they started limiting the number of nights it happens there would be more complaints about that than Spectro.
