Any particular kind folks would like to recommend? We have a gas Maytag but it's about 16 years old and is acting up (some of the stove-top burners won't automatically light plus the oven is sometimes very slow to warm up)....I'm not sure if it's worth it at this point to have a tech do a $$$ service call or if it would be better to just go ahead and buy a whole new stove/range.

I'd like the good/bad/ugly of recent experiences buying a new stove *including* good/bad experiences concerning the vendor(Best Buy? Costco? Sears? etc.) you bought from, how much servicing has cost and so on.

Thanks,
agnes!

I had the luck of having to purchase one just a few days before Christmas. :headache: The stove was original to the house, which is 23 years old. So, I think I got my $$'s worth!

I wanted something very basic - just wanted a ceramic top (a first for me!) and self-cleaning (also a first!). I got a great deal on a Maytag and it's fantastic. I think I paid $450 (very cheap!) and it's all that I need.

So I guess I can recommend Maytag. :thumbsup2

The last 2 stoves I have bought have both been GE Profiles. I had to buy a new stove when I moved in our new house as the previous owners took all the appliances. The stove I have has 5 gas burners and is a dual fuel convention oven with a lower warming oven. The oven is also self cleaning, a big plus. I have been extremely pleased with the GE Profile brand and wouldn't hesitate to buy another. As for where to buy them, I have bought both my stoves off of Craigslist. The one I bought recently retails for $2000 and I paid $275.

The very best stove we ever had was a six burner gas Thermidor. It's still in the family, but unfortunately not with us. We had to leave it behind when we moved (no room, and no gas where we were going). :(

Thermidor and Wolf are the two brands that I would recommend. As soon as we can, we are going to replace what we have now (came with the house) with a propane gas Thermidor or Wolf...
