Obviously no resale value is guaranteed, five years out or any other time duration out. Nothing is guaranteed as far as future market value.
If I were pretty sure I was going to sell 5 years or so after purchase, I would not buy
ANY timeshare.
With
DVC I would not expect you to have a TOTAL loss, but you would almost certainly have some loss, because the normal timeshare real estate commission is 10-12%. If you look at the resale prices of SSR, I think many people are now selling SSR for less than they paid for it...PLUS paying a 10-12% sales commission.
If I was only going to use DVC for five years, I would not buy. I would rent points for the next five years, avoid the large capital outlay, and still save significant money.
