Even though I'm in my late 20's, my mom insists that I put together a Birthday/Christmas wish every year. I love to read and was thinking about asking for a Kindle. My big worry is eye strain. I'm a desk jockey and stare at a computer for 9 hours a day. Is staring at a Kindle screen going to be bad for my eyes?

The Klindle screen is nothing like a computer screen.

Your computer screen is backlit. This causes eye strain and is the very reason that people dont enjoy reading books on computer screens.

The Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader use something called e-ink technology. There is no lighting source included in the device, making it very similar to a paper book.

The designers of both devices wanted the device to disappear in your hand and have the experience be about your reading and not the gadget.

In my mind they have succeeded in their goal.

I personally work 9 hours a day, like you, on a computer. I read my Kindle during my lunch breaks and at night. It have to problems, and in fact it is easier on my eyes than the PC. I highly suggest it!:thumbsup2

I have enjoyed my kindle. It is easy on the eyes. Also there is plus to making the font pretty much as big as you like.

We love our kindles. If you ever get an ipad or such, you can read your kindle book via an app on your devise.
