I had a message from an automated call tonight from credit card co. (my Disney Card) saying they wanted to check activity on my account. So I went online to check and see if there was anything strange and sure enough there are charges that I know I didn't make and I'm sure my DH didn't make (but I will wait until a.m. until he comes home from work). I called the # they left and there are even more charges for today. Looks like all for telecommunication equipment from GT Communications, which I have never heard of for $140, $108.61, $298.73 and $258.61. Seems odd that we went away for the weekend of 11/15 to PA and used this cc to charge the hotel and 4 days later all of these charges started. This makes me SO mad!! Send some pixie dust in getting this straightened out.
Just had to vent.

I didn't wait for my husband and I did call last night. The charges were made in Brooklyn, NY. Rep. said that it doesn't look like they were done on the internet but in a store. My husband and I still have our cards so someone must have made a card from our numbers. CC co. had already declined the last purchase that they tried to make. The credit card was cancelled immediately last night and a fraud investigation will take place. I hope they get this "person".

Visa will help you get it all straightened out. This happened with DH's Visa debit card a few years ago. They ran up almost $900 in charges.

That would make me soo angry. Sounds like someone from the hotel maybe stole it. Hope they catch the bugger.

I hope they catch them.

YIKES! I hope they get this straightened out very soon and I hope they catch the rascals who are trying to rip you off.

I owuld call them right now and have them call to verify every charge until your dh comes home. Even see if they will stop any charges going through until you talk to him. Good luck.

Call VISA and the credit reporting agencies, and have it flagged for fraud. That way you have all your bases covered with the card. Good Luck

My SIL just had this happen. It turned out to be a hotel employee. Her damage wasn't bad, the girl just ordered a pizza. My brother and SIL are diligent checkers of their account so she got caught.
If that had happened to us, a pizza would be overlooked in this household.

My debit card # was stolen a few months ago and a charge was made to a cellular phone company owned by Nextel. I called them immediately and was told that they don't even verify charges or go after people who use stolen numbers because they have so many. The only action they will take against the person who used my number is that they won't let that person use my number again (huh?). I told them the police here would go after the person who did it, but they would not release the name. It took numerous calls to the company and a complaint filed with the California Better Business Bureau to get my money back.

I strongly suggest you call the credit reporting agencies and put a fraud alert on your report (free service). This requires any company that has a request to open an account in your name to call you at your HOME telephone number and verify that it is you opening the account.

Good luck to you-

I dont blame you I would be furious. I hope they get this straightened out for you very soon. Hope they get the person who did this also!!

buzzlady, the same thing happened to us. We went to Hershey Park for the weekend about 2 years ago just for the weekend. We came back Monday morning and then I went out to do some grocery shopping and while I was out our credit card company called and asked my DH if we had just been to a gas station. He couldn't be sure if I had gone to the gas station or not, so he called me on my cell phone and I told him it wasn't me. This started the investigation. We had our cards in our pocession, so apparently someone somehow duplicated them. The person who was using did about $500 or in fraudelent charges. Most of them were for gas stations (some of the charges were as little as $6), they used it in a grocery store and a restaurant. The first fraudelent charge was from a sports store in Brooklyn for about $1,200. The strange thing was that the next thing they did was they made it look like they returned something to that store, because there was a credit for that same amount issued by the store. I have never been to Brooklyn (aside from passing through on the parkway). I have never shopped in Brooklyn. Luckily they only 3 days of charges on it.

Your story is so similar to mine in that it happened when you were in Pennsylvania (like I was), and it was a store in Brooklyn (I hope it wasn't a sports store).

My credit card company just closed that card out and issued us another card. We were not responsible for the charges. I know they (the bad guys) tried several times to use the card after we canceled it. They recommended we make out a police report, so we went down to the police to do it and they basically told us they couldn't do anything about, but they did take a report for us.

I hope everything works out for you

Been there. A few years ago, the hotel clerk stole Credit card numbers. He charged up over a 1,000. Took awhile to work out. I don't know if the ever caught him.
