Think I should switch back

We were booked for ASM in December 2010. I am hoping that they offer free dining during the time we are there. (3rd-12th)
I just called to switch to POFQ so we would get regular dining free, if offered.
It cost $527 to upgrade to a moderate. There are 2 adults and 2 children, 13 and 10. It was going to cost the additional $40 to upgrade the dining plan, so we upgraded the room instead.
Now I am thinking it would be best to go back to Value, get the 2 QS and snack, then use the $527 to pay for our dinners. LeCellier and Boma are my only 2 that I just cannot skip.
I enjoy sitting down for dinner, and the kids could easily share a meal.
Any thoughts?

I wouldn't book with the assumption that there will be free dining in December. Last year was the very first year EVER that there was public free dining at that time. While it may happen again, it's more likely if you have a Disney Visa and even then it's not guaranteed (though I personally believe it'll happen at least for DV holders).

Which resort do you prefer? Which dining plan do you prefer? If it was the same cost to stay at ASM with QSDP plus these 2 TS meals as it would be to stay at POFQ with the DDP then which would you choose?

We had that same choice in front of us for August though the price difference was only $130 to upgrade to POFQ (we always book preferred at Values). We chose POFQ with basic DDP. Only you can decide which you'd prefer.

IFF FD gets offered, a value would more than likely get QS, whereas a mod would get regular dining.

For 2 adults and 2 Juniors, as you said, it's a $40 per day upgrade.

One benefit of the mod is you do get a fridge. So if you think you are ok with QS. However, if you plan on more than a couple of table service, you might be better off at a moderate as it would pay by itself.

I make my reservations based on the accomodations/package I am willing to pay for at the time I book it. If I can apply a code or discount in the future, that is great, but not something I am expecting or relying on.

In your case, I don't see why you need to upgrade the resort now. You can do that if/when FD is available. If you have to pay for dining, you can pick whatever plan you want without regard to the resort. This only becomes an issue if FD is offered, and it is QS at the values.
