I'd love to know more about FW Cabins from people who have stayed there.

Pools? How far to buses? Golf Carts?

Anything great about them....

Can you do DDP with those?

We have kids 9,7,4 at time of this trip. We love MK and Epcot the most.

Tell me what you think of this part of the resort.

Thanks

We stayed in the cabins in December, while we love the cabins, the transportation stinks. If you are used to it then there is no problem, but I want to walk out front and board one bus to take me to the parks or DTD and not have to take an internal bus to one of 2 locations to wait for a bus to the parks. However, we loved the boat to the MK, couldn't use the boat to the Contemporary because we have ECV's for mom and myself. If we didn't have those, it might not be as bad, but I still don't like the internal bus system (personal opinion), because you have one set that goes to one location and another that goes to a different location, then you have transport to the park or DTD. Having that much room is great and the bathroom was really a nice size. Loved having the kitchen, especially for water and sodas and leftovers (never cook when on vaction).

We didn't use the pools as it was too cold, but there was one right at the end of our loop and there is no theming at all.

If you are on the end of the loop the walk to the bus is not bad, if you rent a golf cart, you don't even have to use the internal buses, because there is an area by the main buses to park the cart. The walk is not really bad from any of the cabins to the bus stop, unless you have your hands full of packages.

You can use the DDP when you are in them, we did, that is why we had so many leftovers for late night snacks.

There is a television in the bedroom and in the living room. The one in the living room has a VCR/DVD or one or the other. The bedroom can be closed off so not to disturb any one in the ligving room. In the bedroom there is a ful size bed and a set of bunk beds, a closet and a little vanity area, there is a pull down full size Murphy bed in the living room. There is a door to the outside from the bedroom and the kitchen area, a deck with a grill and picnic table.

There are alot of activities for the children. There is a nightly campfire with Chip and Dale (weather permitting), they can see the horses in the stables at the front. Unfortunately the petting zoo is gone. There is a playground near the boat area and the food at Trails End is really wonderful (had breakfast and dinner there).

If I can answer any other questions, please let me know.

I read the other day they are being refurbished, last time I saw the cabins they looked a little run down.

We stayed in a cabin june '06. I was nice, a little dirty, cob webs in the corners. My suggestion rent the golf cart, It's expensive, but if your time is worth anything, rent the golf cart. We were in Peacock Alley right off the main entrance, very quiet and removed from the main road, but a very, very, very long distance from the stores and main area. It took us 45 minutes to walk from our cabin to the Meadows Store which about half way from the main entrance to the back by the lake were the other store and the resturant is. This is were you can get golf carts. just keep in mind that the carts rent out fast. If you decide you want one call and reserve it now, before you go.:hippie:

We stayed with 6 of us in the cabin. Wife, me our kids 7 and 9 and in laws. So it was a full load of folks..

But it was great! The one bath was our only issue, but we worked around it..

Rent a cart. Reserve in advance as they go fast. We did and it was very much worth the expense. The central pool may not have theme to it, but they have lots of kid activities and the main store is right there. Was great to relax there for a few afternoons.

The launch to MK is quick and easy. Really fun to watch the water parade. Having the kitchen in the cabin was great for us. We could make quick snacks or even a meal and keep things flexible.

In the end, it was a good time. The in laws were a little "demanding" of our time so when we went this year with them, we did connecting rooms. The cabins were really nice though

We loved the FW Cabins. The extra space is worth every penny!!!!!!!
The kids (3) shared the bedroom and DH and I had the Murphy bed in the LR. Having the extra space for he and I to relax in in the evening after they were asleep was wonderful.
Having a full, fully equipped kitchen is great. We had breakfast every morning and cold drinks and snacks when we returned to the cabin. I didn't really cook much, but could have if I chose to. It is a great way to save money.
I too would recommend the golf cart. They are pricey, but worth it. It is very useful for the internal transportation and it will eliminate one bus ride (The internal bus). The kids also felt it was a lot of fun!!!
As a previous poster said, the only downside is the transportation, except to the MK. It can take a bit longer.
We thought the pool was great. No it is not as themed as some at Disney but it was big, clean and fun. The laundry room is right there and I did laundry while the kids swam.
I would go back to the FW Cabins in a heartbeat!
Have a great trip.

I agree with Princess Suzanne. We thought the transportation was extremely inconvenient when we stayed there. We had a golf cart (very expensive at $50 per day -- our rental car cost much less -- talk about taking advantage of a monopoly!). We also didn't like that there were no real dining options other than the buffet or take-out pizza.

For us, we found staying off-site to be more convenient than staying at the Ft. Wilderness cabins. If we stayed there again, the one thing I'd do differently, is I'd plan to take the rental car to the parks. The parking is right at the cabin. You can't use your car except to come and go from the resort. I'd still rent a golf cart, but I wouldn't bother driving the golf cart to the boat, taking the boat to MK, etc. I'd just drive.

I guess I'm in the minority but we didn't need a golf cart at all. We were three couples of seniors (youngest was 68, oldest was 81), my husband and me (40s), and our son and his family (20s and a five year old). There were two problems with the buses. Once when the seniors were going to a water park and didn't realize Blizzard Beach was closed for annual maintenance (I had told them but they had selective memories) and once in the evening when my daughter-in-law and her daughter had to stand on the bus on the way back for about 30 seconds until someone asked them if they wanted her seat. We did all four parks in seven days and never had a problem with the internal transportation.

Things to bring along - definitely at least one flashlight, more if you can pack them (The Dollar Tree usually has cheap ones for $1). There's not a ton of light at night. Insect repellant. I was eaten up in the mornings waiting on the deck for everyone else to wake up. If you plan on using the outside grill, matches or a lighter (airline restrictions have loosened up for these items but check). Also, the cabins are set up for only six for the kitchen supplies. So you might want to pack some paper plates if you plan on having a lot of meals at the cabin. VHS tapes (yes, they still make them) for the play only machine at the TV.
