A while back there was a thread with a great list of things to do at certain times before leaving home (what to do at one month, one week, etc.).

I'd like to compare my list with that one to make sure I haven't forgotten anything, but I can't find the thread.

Can anyone post a link?

Thanks!

Add to the list if not already:

Turn off the water heater. (Caution, on some models off is turning the dial to the right.)
Turn off the washing machine hoses (or maybe turn off the water completely)
If there is absolutely no chance of subfreezing weather, turn off the furnace.

One of the top ten causes of home insurance claims is water damage from burst washing machine hoses.

To have the Mail stopped before you leave

Most "safety experts", who ever they are, suggest not having your paper/mail stopped and having a neighbor collect them. It is easy for someone to watch your home at mail time and see who gets mail and who doesn't.

In our town, the police department will do drive-by's of your home if you are going to be gone for more then a few days. They will also get out of the cars and look into window, etc for damage, even things like broken water pipes and water everywhere.
