We're tentatively booked to go to WDW for next March - we loved the house we stayed in this past Christmas, www.floridasparadisevilla.com and think we'll do SeaWorld, and WDW.

But!

With the "rumours" of "free dining" in August...we dug out the calculators.. and just:scratchin ...looking for some thoughts on tickets vs. APs

Dh is off Aug26-Sept3, so the timeframe works:thumbsup2

2 adults, 2 kids - who are turning 10:scared1: next Feb - no more cheapie kids tix for them!! LOL!

10Day Hopper/WP/Non-expiring/6 visits : $1902.14
Premium Annual Passes : $2240.86

Huh.

Seeing it makes it kind of a no-brainer...

And if the DDP is "free" for August, then I can apply the $$ of the 1day ticket to the cost of the PAPs - upgrading once we're there..

And then there's free parking and the DDE card that we would be eligible to get for next March, if we buy the APs..

*sigh*

It drives me nuts to start planning a nice summer vacation here in Canada, and then realize that it's probably going to be cheaper just to go to WDW!! LOL!!

Yep I agree it is a cheap holiday even if you have to pay for the dining plan. Keep in mind if your fling you will need passports for everyone. If you don't have one get one now as it will take until july or aug to get it lol. If your driving you wont need passports until 2008.

Well, just to add my two cents, the free dining was incredible! We are going in April (actually 29 days but who is counting;) ) but I was thinking about returning in August if free dining returns. It is fabulous and although August is really hot, it is a different vacation because we relaxed more (and ate more). It wasn't as rushed as other visits and we couldn't wipe the smiles off of our faces each day when we had a $200 meal and it was free for us!!:lmao:

Happy planning!

I'm having the same problem trying to plan our summer vacation. My husband does not want to do disney this year because we can't afford it. But when I start to look at even a 2 night get away around here it sure adds up fast. I just keep thinking I could be going to Florida for a little more that that. I don't think he'll change his mind but it sure makes me think twice!

I'm thinking that I must have written this, because this is exactly what I am dealing with. My DH thinks that I am obsessed with these boards, but I am just looking for a good deal. If I can get the free DDP and stay at a value resort for a week with 6 day passes ii is only about $1500 for 4 of us. I keep watching the flights out of DTW and still hoping for $39 flight each way. This will only run us about $2000 US for a week of fun. If we went to Great Wolf Lodge it runs about $400 for a weekend with no meals. I guess he just doesn't follow the "but look how much money I saved" concept. :confused3

My dh and two kids went to Niagara Falls over the weekend in March break to the Hampton Inn and the Fallsview Waterpark.
Hotel cost $409. Gas cost $80 Food & Miscellaneous Cost: $250
Total: $739. And that was just for two nights!

Our Disney Adventure for 9 days for FOUR people (including meal plan and flights - staying at a Moderate resort) $3800. If the dining turns out to be free, knock off $1000. so $2800.

In the summer in Niagara Falls, it would cost twice that amount for three days. Crazy!

The more research I have done through this board the more money I've saved.
For example: Upgraded my rental car (just need it for a day) from a compact at $85 to a minivan for $65!
Airline Flights: Almost booked when they were $108, saw a post here that said they were on for $69. Saved about $600!
It's all about the research for sure, but it's the most fun I've ever had doing research!! lol

... but I was thinking about returning in August if free dining returns. ...

Care to have a few more passengers in your van??:drive: :drive: :drive:

I know, I begged last year, too;)

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one feeling:
"Why not go to WDW instead of somewhere in Canada??"
Feels a little, disloyal, maybe... like we should take the kids to Ottawa, experience our nation's capital..

...but we could go to the Canada Pavillion too!!:teeth:

Seriously, the numbers are killing me a little...LOL!!

Flights from Portland...$950 USD
All-Stars or POP Aug26-September2, one room..$800
Dining - not free...$800
Tickets APs...$2240
Skip the rental car this time, use ME

$5000 - but tickets are good for Christmas, and/or March Break...and again next summer..

Flights for 4 to YOW, same time frame..$2500USD, alone. (I know we could find a seat sale...but it's not going to be much less than $1600 for the 4 of us..

And we all know where we *really* want to go;);)

Thanks all!

Well, now you really have me thinking too!:goodvibes Maybe we should be upgrading to APs on our April trip. Then we could have them for August (maybe;)) and for next spring. That's right--then we would be saving money, right::yes::

Hmmmm...more to consider!:rotfl:
