I can't stand when people refer to February 14th as "ValentiMe's Day". Also hate when people refer to underwear as "underwears". It makes my skin crawl when people say "undoubtably" or "supposably" rather than "undoubtedly" or "supposedly".

What words/phrases irk you?

how about libary instead of library

That was a favorite of my late DH's.. Used to drive me nuts and I swear he did it on purpose.. LOL :)

"Additionally" is about the only one that makes me want to scratch a blackboard. ;) I much prefer..."In addition."

I "brought" this at Walmart (meaning bought )..

"Rang" for rain..

"Warsh" for wash..

Forgot to add "sandrich" for sandwich..

Oh!! There is another that bugs me also...as well as. My former boss wrote that ALL the time!!!! Just use "and." I LOVED it when she gave the Chief of Staff something for his review. He crossed out every single "as well as" that she had and wrote..."and." Yahoooooooooo!!!

Yeah... DH says Valentimes which drives me bonkers
He also says pitcher for picture and catch up for ketchup
His mom always says warsh too

But the one I absolutely despise......... AXE for ask

another twist... I hate when people say "I don't know what to tell YA" that urks me... like thanks a lot, now I feel better !

DH started saying "In'nt it". Drives me NUTS! And he mainly says it to DD. I correct him every time. I am thinking he picked it up at work since I don't say it!

Axed

As in "I axed my sister..." instead of asked

drives me insane :scared:

Makes me want to run amok with an axe.

(whoops someone beat me to this one)

I also used to have a co-worker who said "Sectember". I always wanted to ask her if she thought the calendar had spelled it wrong.

"close proximity" (redundant!)

But what really really gets me is "axed" for "asked."

punkin instead of pumpkin

and the word AMAZING is so overused, it drives me crazy

also hate "warsh"

my dh pronounces battery battree

and he also says saul instead of saw

My peeve is when people say "cent" rather than "cents":
"How much did that cost?"
"Twenty-five cent."

AARRRGGGHHHH!!! And now with the rapper named 50 Cent, it only validates its use!

I also have an aunt who says that the big home improvement store is called the "Home Depole".

Forgot to mention, those of us in Boston are guilty of using "wicked". As in, "Walt Disney World is a wicked cool place for a vacation". It drives my Dad crazy. He always says, "how can something be "wicked cool" or "wicked good" or "wicked fun"", etc.

I hate "yous". As in "Are yous ready to order?" from a server at a restaurant. My inlaws talk about how one of their relatives has "Old timers" disease instead of Alzheimers (I can't spell it but I can pronounce it). My MIL also refers to the video game system "Nintendo" and "Indendo". She even writes it that way. :headache:

It drives me insane when people use the word "myself" in place of "me" or "I" (whichever is correct in the given situation) as a pronoun, e.g. "The man came into the store looking for Cindy and myself."

That's probably my biggest pet peeve, but simple grammatical mistakes drive me crazy, too. I used to work with a woman who always said (among other things) "seen" in place of "saw," e.g. "Oh yeah, I seen that show last night." Absolutely made my skin crawl. :crazy2:
