I regularly go to DL by myself. Accordingly, I overhear lots of unusual things. Here are some of the best overheard last weekend. I hope you enjoy them.

Girl1 (to her friend): Do you realize that the smallest Big Gulp is still twice the size of McDonald’s largest soda?
Girl2: I know. The serving size should be one per year.

Girl: I’m scared to drive on the LA freeways.
Guy: Everyone’s scared to drive on the LA freeways. That’s why we all drive the way we do.

Guy (to his friend at Rancho del Zocalo): Always be suspicious of restaurants that charge extra for guacamole.

Guy: What’s in the cookies?
Girl: There’s molasses…
Guy (interrupting): I hate molasses.
Girl: It doesn’t have molasses.

Guy (to his friend): Driving in LA traffic for the first time is like discovering that the girl you’d hoped to marry is secretly a heroin addict.

I heard a young girl looking at the Painting of Walt and Mickey in the Great Moments lobby and she said'' I remember growing up watching the Disney channel and this wasn't the guy on any of the shows"

So true.

Makes a lot of sense!

Guy (to his friend at Rancho del Zocalo): Always be suspicious of restaurants that charge extra for guacamole.

Says a person who has never shopped for enough perfectly ripe avocados to make any decent amount of guacamole... Those puppies are expensive!

Yesterday I heard "HURRY!!! We've got to run to Mission Space!" I ALLLLLLMOST told her she's on the wrong coast, but decided to let her try to find it since she stepped on my foot and nearly knocked me over.

These are awesome! Whenever we drive in Los Angeles I am always reminded of the scene in Clueless where Cher is learning to drive on the freeway, and she and Dion panic as Murray yells at them to stay calm! When I was little I never realized how true that scene is!

Traffic isn't that bad. Well -- yeah, it's bad. But it's survivable. If you're getting in after about 7:30 and driving to Anaheim, you should be fine.
Except when the 91 has construction happening so that it's down to two lanes and THEN there's an accident. Added a solid 90 minutes to our drive - we'd expected to get there by 8:00 and it was nearly 10:00 before we finally arrived.

Terrified here! From Canada and city driving = mostly speeds of 50 km/hour = about 31 miles/hour. Speeds on my freeways = 80 - 90 km/hour range = 49 - 56 miles/hour. It takes several days for me to get used to the higher speeds that are allowed on LA freeways.

When driving on LA Freeways, I develop a very "twitchy" right leg ... I'm constantly trying to step on the brake BUT I'm sitting in the PASSENGER seat! I realize that I'm the PASSENGER but I still can't help myself from trying to "brake" the car!

I'm amazed at the skill of LA drivers as they zip and zag, lane change & squeeze into impossibly small spaces between vehicles while driving at high speeds. When getting my license, I was taught the 2 - 3 second rule (ie. the rule that a driver should ideally stay at least 2 - 3 seconds behind any vehicle that is directly in front of his or her vehicle).

My observation (I'm going to be CHEEKY here so please take no offense LA drivers!) is that when the 2 - 3 second rule is implemented, that means "Hey, there's room to fit 2 - 3 cars into that space!" and the next thing I see are 2 - 3 cars changing lanes and filling up the space directly ahead of me.

Thanks for this thread. Really enjoying the chuckles!:rotfl2:

These are hysterical!

Except when the 91 has construction happening so that it's down to two lanes and THEN there's an accident. Added a solid 90 minutes to our drive - we'd expected to get there by 8:00 and it was nearly 10:00 before we finally arrived.
I HATE the 91!!! The WORST freeway ever! Even without construction at 3 am there is traffic! Awful!! But the only way to DL from az!

It's almost a right of passage to drive the LA freeways, within most people's lives. In another sense, it is an achievement unlocked :)

Great thread as always WonkaKid!

Yes, and it is not just LA freeways. I live in OC and "only" 17 miles from work. Pretty straight shots on the freeway. It can take 30 minutes or 45. Very unpredictable at 3:30 or even at 7:30 pm.

The Orange Crush is the worst! Where the 5/22/57 freeways meet. Avoid that and the 55 like the plague if you can during traffic times! Oh wait, along with the 91, that is all of our freeways. Good times!
