Things our kids can't imagine...

Inspired by a meme on Pinterest, a "just for fun" thread where we post things that were perfectly normal when we were kids, but that seem completely absurd to our kids:

1) the anticipation of answering a telephone without already knowing who it is

No internet.

Four tv channels and no remote controls!

It is still this way at our house! We have a landline with no caller id...

The excitement of going to pick up a newly-developed roll of film to see how the pictures turned out. I always looked at them as soon as I got back to my car.

-No on-demand, dvr, netflix (ie waiting til Saturday morning for cartoons)
-phones with cords
-people smoking inside restaurants, airplanes, etc
-seatbelts as optional and/or little kids sitting in the front seat

Playing out side most of the day and riding our bikes with out protective gear many miles from home.

Cartoons could only been seen on Saturday morning and only for a couple of hours.

We had a remote too. My parents got cable when it was really really new. I was probably 4 or 5. With cable came the new remote. Probably 1983 I'd say. MTV was new.

Oh another is when MTV played music videos all day!!!

Records are huge with kids these days, and have been for awhile. When my son purchases new albums, they usually seem to come in LP format, with a code attached for a digital download. The record store seems to be doing good business, and old albums are collector's items.

Now tapes, I haven't so many of those around.

That's a huge one. I work with teenagers and even the 18 year olds heading to college this fall were born in 1998/99. They can't fathom no cell phones.

Yeah, true, records have made a come back as vintage for sure. I guess I'm meaning records and tapes as the only option...no digital option for on the go at your finger tips.

My father has a record collection that could probably put my kids through college. Tons of rare 1st editions from the 60s and 70s.

I'm not that old. I'm 34. lol We had remotes as a kid but there were times we didn't have the money for cable and had a 13" tv with a turn knob. My kids couldn't imagine.
