Things NOT to bring - Overpacking

food.. if you are on the DDP. We never eat the snacks or breakfast things we bring.

Too many clothes..If you get in trouble, you can wash there. We have never got in trouble.

If you have kids, toys. We pack their DS's and that's it.

Now that I think about it, don't bring toys if you don't have kids, either!

We always bring snacks even when we're on the dining plan. I don't want to waste a snack on a pack of Poptarts when I could easily have brought a box from home.

I'm a shoe-holic and I'm always tempted to bring several pairs. I find that I end up never wearing most of them. One pair of tennis shoes, one pair of flip flops, and one dressy pair (if you're doing anything that you'll need these for...ie nice dinner) are plenty.

Too true!

I'd say clothes. Lay out everything you want to take and try to match up tops/pants and see if you can leave stuff out. I did it with DS's clothes last week (he leaves in 5 days with my parents :scared1:)

But my grandma always told me, "Lay out everything you are going to pack. Take 1/2 the clothes and twice the money."

ETA: I was too busy laughing & forgot to add my comment. Extra shoes, clothes & jewelry aren't necessary for me. I bring 1/2 my clothes for the week & do laundry while I'm there. The hotel supplies shampoo & soap, so unless you have a brand preference, you don't need that.

I don't bring my regular purse either. I bring my cash, license, CC, ATM card & my insurance card. All the other junk in my purse stays home.

The things I would suggest are toys if you have kids as well. We just bring the favourite sleep friends and whatever they brought for the plane ride. DS's backpack of stuff for the plane didnt get touched for the rest of the week.

If you have little little ones and you have to pack baby stuff. Dishes and spoons. I brought for my son cereal bowls and baby spoons. About day 3 we started using paper bowls and spoons from what ever resturant we were in, saved tons of room in the diaper bag.

As far as rain gear..... I had bought ponchos at the $ store...bring those! But I also bought some umbrellas...never used them. Too hard to handle a stroller, umbrella, and crowds!

2nd the toy thing too! We definately needed some things for the plane, but other than that we never needed additional toys. When we were buying souvies to take home, we purposely bought some of those Disney themed activity coloring packages with markers and coloring pages. They did those all the way home in the plane, and then I framed them and they hung them in their rooms.

funny! don't bring:

Jeans
pantyhose
high heels
jacket "for at night if it gets cold" -- it won't...but the restaurants will be freezing!

tr the ziplock bag mehod. take all your clothes for the day ,and put them in a ziplock gallon bag. keeps you from overpacking and makes dressing easier

ROTFLMAO :rotfl2::rotfl:
I was going to say my husband for the exact same reason!

I am a horrible overpacker and have set a goal for myself to try to fit everything in one big suitcase (and if that doesn't work then a small one also..I usually have 4!) for myself and my 2 daughters. I am traveling to WDW on my own with DD6 and DD1 and I'm not sure i'll be able to handle more than one suitcase and the stroller along with both girls. My goals are to:
Not bring toys (except a couple things for both girls on the plane)
Only packing necessary footware (2 pairs of sandals each or 1 sandal, 1 sneaker...No shoes, they never get worn)
We'll be there 10 days and my plan is to bring 5 outfits for me and DD6 and a couple more for DD1 plus 2 swimsuits each. I always bring more outfits then days I'm there and only ever wear the same few outfits...I also have a washer/dryer in our villa so I will do laundry half way through.
Ponchos are necessary, maybe a light raincoat...no umbrella.
I'm hoping that if I stick to that I'll be able to do one suitcase and avoid unnecessary stuff. I also got those vacuum bags that compress and suck the air out. I used them when I went camping and they work amazing!!

One thing I don't agree with a PP about is snacks. I do the dining plan and I still bring some small snacks with me always and also stuff for Peanut butter and fluff sandwiches. With kids I always like to be prepared and hate to waste a snack credit on something that may only cost a $1 or so. Not to mention with the dining plan you only get 2 meals so we do breakfast in the room with toast and cereal.

a hair dryer... i always pack it but never use it... i always end up wearing a hat because of the humidity. we've really cut down on our packing. all we bring is carry ons... each person gets one... if you can't fit it in one carry on you don't need it is my theory

What kind of bags do you carry as carry ons?

We needed both jackets and jeans last Nov. I gues it is all in your perspective, but the 40's are COLD for me!!

Wow I bow to you, god do I wish I could get away with a carry on! :goodvibes I may try something like that in a few years when my DD1 is a bit older. I once went on a 4 night business trip and only brought a carryon, but I had that puppy stuffed to the brim. Coming home I couldn't shove it all back in and had to get creative on what I considered my pocketbook to be!

The last time we went I did so well with not overpacking. It was so nice in the hotel room not bumping into everything!

I agree with everything that has been posted. I don't pack food, but I do have Garden Grocer deliver breakfast food and water bottles.

Bathing suits and cover-ups - We don't swim every day so I only brought one per person. It was fine. They had always dried out by the time we needed them. I also did not do cover-ups for the kids. They just walked to the pool in their crocs and suit. Speaking of crocs, at home we have two pairs each or flip flops. I only brought one pair per person and tennis shoes. We have one nice dinner per trip. I had my DD wear her crocs even with her dress. I couldn't do it for me though! I did slip in a pair of sandals!

Don't pack:

Anything you won't bring home with you. Ship it instead (sunscreen, toiletries, snacks, old t-shirts that you can pitch after you wear them, beat up flip flops for the pool that you can pitch, etc.)
