Things DisUnplugged Should Talk About on their Podcast

Loving the comments everyone and I really do think RunDisney should be mentioned more. I completely agree that a few years ago when it was discussed the interested wasn't as high. The upcoming star wars race sold out in less than a minute for the challenge. I was literally on my computer and phone seeing which one would register me fast enough. They ended up opening more slots last weekend at the Princess Races (which is a whole other discussion...opening slots!) The new Paris Race is getting a lot of discussion on the RunDisney Facebook pages and group chats and everyone is gearing up for the upcoming Tink Race in Disneyland too!

I like this idea, we do hear that some of the staff is doing part of the marathon or other nearby ones. I wouldn't mind it going from a quick mention and congrats to a 5 minute piece or so with a recap. I recently found some footage by one of the wheelchair racers and after seeing htat and learning more about th 5K and 10K and pace needed. I can keep up a walking pace and really looking forward to joining in on a future one.

Well there is a time limit to finish.

Theoretically, yes.
But I have yet to finish within the time limit at a runDisney 5K. They don't seem to care (for the longer races, they do). So I'm guessing that, assuming his walking/running pace is decent, @KingLlama might have time for like a 5-7 minute nap after each K. I think he can do it!

I just turned on "Lose Yourself" by Eminem and will listen to it on a 24-hour loop for the next three months.

Pete and crew could broadcast 24 hours a day, and still not answer all the questions or cover all the topics we have. They choose what they find interesting, and what they think we might need to know.

The Mickey Miles & More podcast, with Mike Scopa from the WDW Today podcast, has been covering all aspects of runDisney for years. Folks who are interested in that should check it out.

I listen to that podcast regularly and it's great. I think people here are just looking for a small mention at least. We understand the people on the team aren't runners but someone having the rapid fire that is hey registration for a rundisney race coming up would be nice or something like that.

I will admit, I've only listened to a few minutes of the Mickey Miles podcast, and I didn't enjoy it. I know I should probably give it another try, but that's not relevant right now.

I think the reason why I love the DIS Unplugged more than I like other podcasts is because I love the variety of personalities and the way they interact. I want to hear those personalities talking about something Disney-related that I love (aka runDisney).
Also, the DIS Unplugged is the only podcast network that I listen to regularly, and I think it would be nice to get all of my news and information from the podcast and not have to look/listen elsewhere.

Do I think it's great that there are podcasts out there that talk about runDisney? Yes, I do. I think that's awesome. But that doesn't mean that I don't still want the DIS Unplugged to also cover the information. It never hurts to have multiple views on the same topic.

You can get all the information you need about RunDisney from the Mickey Miles podcast. It's their niche.

A guest from runDisney to speak about it would be good, too.

That's nice that there is another show that focuses on this one thing, but that doesn't mean that the DIS couldn't give a 30-second mention each of the 9 times registration is opening for an upcoming race. That would suck up a whopping 4-1/2 minutes per year of show time. I don't think that's too much to ask.

I have not personally done any runDisney races, and I don't expect the team to cover every single one by any means, but as someone who is interested and would like to know more, I think a rapid fire of when events are going to be opening up for signups, as well as maybe an hour segment dedicated to going over the race weekends, where to stay, what the different events are, etc. would be really helpful.

I would like to do one someday (I've run 3 half marathons but I don't know if I could handle one in the Florida heat. I'm a wimpy runner who likes to accept beer from bystanders to keep hydrated during a race). Maybe a 10K is more my speed.

There isn't too much of a time limit on the 5K's. I did my first runDisney event recently...the Princess 5K. I used to be a runner and loved it so much. But 7 knee surgeries later, running isn't something I am supposed to be doing very much of anymore. I walked this entire race and was so concerned about keeping the appropriate pace and thought for sure I would finish near the end. I was in the last corral and didn't even start the race until 40 minutes after the first group began. We finished in about an hour, but that included lots of stops for pictures and all. And there were literally at least a thousand people that finished behind me. So many people just walking it. Some not even trying to walk quickly. They say there is a 16 min/mile pace requirement. I think that only truly matters for the 1/2 marathon and marathons. (And only then because they have to get everyone finished and everything ready for the parks to open at regular times.) I talked to people who did the 10K the next day and many walked the whole thing, and many not quickly. So now I'm thinking about doing the 10K next year.

So literally....ANYONE can do at the very LEAST a runDisney 5K. Truly. Anyone. If I could do it with the current knee issues I'm having, in addition to foot issues the last 6 months, then ANYONE can do it.

Having said that...I have loved the times in the past that they have been discussed on the podcasts. They had someone come in once (a man...can't remember his name) after he had done the Goofy Challenge (if I remember correctly) and he talked in great detail about the events and his training and everything. And when Kathy did her first 5K there was a lot of talk about it. I agree it would be nice to hear something about them from time to time, but I also know there is so much they have to leave out on a weekly basis. So it probably won't be too high on the list of things to cover. But a mention here or there of helpful information or recaps of event weekends here or there would be great. I would have gladly been a guest on the show last week to tell everyone all about my first experience with the expo and 5K. Hahaha. :)

@Vernie822 The January or February race weekends would be perfect for you. Temperatures were amazing so early in the morning!

Pretty sure they talked about Marathon weekend (and Kathy posted some video's) about it this year.

Look at the dynamic at the round table, most appear not to be into physical fitness, so naturally those topics may only get a brief mention, if any. I am happy to Kathy, and Tracey for doing a RunDisney event.

Also happy Pete lost a significant amount of weight, perhaps he will do a RunDisney event in the future :-)
