They Made Her Take Her Glasses Off!

Thank you all for your responses! I couldn't tell if I was over-reacting or not (first child, first preschool, first pictures, etc) but I just felt heartbroken that they made her take off her glasses.
I knew that we would probably have to deal with children teasing her at some point (either for her glasses or for her eye crossing when she doesn't have her glasses on) but I honestly NEVER expected to have to explain to adults how insensitive they are being.
We want her to be confident in who she is... and telling her that she can't have her picture taken with her glasses on is just sad.
I am going to call the photographers today and let them know how completely insensitive they were to do that.
But... thank you all.

Slightly off topic, but to ease your mind, I have worn glasses since I was four, for a crossed eye. I was never ever made fun of for it.

For one, most didn't know that's why I wore glasses. For two, if they did find out why, I always told them, that my eyes were crossed, because when I was little, I crossed my eyes, and my brother hit me in the head and it stuck.

I never took them off for a photo, don't recall ever being asked to.

Up until about 5 years ago, my glasses were very thick as well, again, no one made fun of them. Now, with new technology, I can get thin glasses, which I love.

I'm sorry they did this. I agree, when someone wears glasses all the time, it's part of who they are - like ears and a nose. My sil, who is kind of preppy and always wears glasses, got contacts for her wedding day. She was all dolled up in too much make-up and didn't have her glasses on - her wedding pictures don't even look like her.

I agree with everyone else - they should do the retake at no charge. If they're not offering a retake - then the photographer should allow you to go to their studio (if it's local) or pay for you to go to Target or some local place to get a sitting done.

I agree with the other parent - now you know to write: LEAVE GLASSES ON right on the order form.
