I heard that VMK has already started shutting down some servers. I have been experiencing big lag and someone told me that is why. Also they have started eliminating some of the addresses like North east North for example.
What will it be like as May 21st gets closer!:confused3

you won't see a particular instance if it's not needed...just because it's not showing up doesn't mean it's not there...

Lag, yes, could be an indicator of that, but no one knows that for sure.

True but you will notice now when quests are run and more instances are needed perhaps only 5 instances will open and 30 people in each line. This is a educated guess based on the facts of what we are experiencing in the game and typical corporate reaction to such an announcement.

Resources are pulled
inventory liquidated
increased lag and crashes
game goes into maintenance mode only.

Ill you would be surprised, I as a game server owner had 3 dedicated servers bu t when money got tight I had to shut down 2 of them then eventually the last one.

What does that have to do with VMK? :confused3

His topic was about vmk closing down servers

I was giving an example on how games can do it

How does

server closing as the topic

and me giving an example about a server closing

irrelevent?

I don't get it someone explain?

I would doubt they're closing them already.

Sorry for going off topic, mods, just trying to explain. Disney has plently of money, so your scenario is completely different from VMK's. They have no reason to close servers early, and your story didn't really give proof they would close them already.

But it seems irrelevant.. that's what I was trying to get at.

ROFL, denial

:lmao:

Thanks - I needed that laugh!

Adventure, when I read your post I was thinking of Finding Nemo when the sharks are telling Marlin he is in denial and they make him give his "fish are friends AA" speech.

As for the original topic, though we have no proof one way or the other, I would not be surprised. The number of guests logging into the VMK has dropped a lot since their announcement.

Ok if they were closing servers that would be really upsetting i dont want to spend my last days on vmk with lag. p.s. this closing is coming faster then i thought it would

Unless...
They are Sulake's servers, not Disney's, and Disney has to pay to keep additional servers supporting a product that they have decided to ax. Therefore, if Disney cuts the budget that pays Sulake, there ISN'T "plenty" of money.

Funny how relevant things can be...but at work today we did a budget analysis of boxes (aka servers) and realized that capacity was well under utilized...and you know what....we decided to shut a couple down and use them for something else.

My guess is your new Cars and Fairies games are getting some nice cheap and free boxes that we used to enjoy many hours on. Financially it makes sense to use a server you have, especially when beta testing a new game, and then decide if you want to purchase more later....however in the meantime, use what you own already.

Just the way it works out there in IT land unfortunately.

In that case I apologize. I was under the understanding Sulake only owns the code, not the servers.

WWE,

Doesn't mean that the budget for vmk that was assigned is running low and can't support the members so they had to shut down?

IMHO why would they need to delete accounts and limit to a mule, each account is entered into a mysql database which takes space on a harddrive and if you had gone to the WDW vmkcentral the computers were always down and stuff which leads to disney funding other sutff more then vmk, most sites set a budget to how much they spent on servers and hosting vmk is constantly or was constantly growing causing much need for update of servers but when the server's reached max capacity and they ran out of funding for more servers they could no longer afford it and had to lay back on servers or shut down vmk.

Just because disney is rich doesn't mean they want to use all there money on a game like vmk, go research please.

No need to apologize to me. I have NO idea. I was just hypothesizing.

I'm pretty sure you are right. That is one fact that has been pointed out in some of the articles about VMK closing. POTC and the new Fairies and Cars virtual stuff are/will be running on Disney servers. VMK runs on Sulake servers. I met Seth/Yavn at Innoventions at DLR one day and he told me the servers were located in Canada.

But Sulake is a Finnish Company
Why locate in Canada where the IT infrastructure stinks?
