Thermos for kids lunch

I have noticed on some of the threads about packing lunches, a lot of people use thermoses. Can anyone recommend a nice one (and budget friendly). I have bought a few that I have found on clearance here and there (probably Walmart?), but they have not worked out well. Either they don't keep things warm, or the kids had a hard time opening them, or they have broken. Any recommendations?

We use the metal thermos funtainer. The boys say their stuff is still warm by lunchtime. I usually put super hot water in it for a few minutes before putting the food in it to "heat up" the container.

I purchased Thermos brand thermos' from Target two years ago. They have held up well and the kids love to use them.

We have the Funtainers as well as Siggs for water bottles. The Funtainer broke when my son dropped it. I wrote Thermos and they sent me a new one!

Stainless steel funtainers from Thermos - they last for years and do a great job of keeping things hot or cold.

Be sure to heat or cool the thermos before you put the food in as that will keep the desired temperature even longer - in other words, fill with hot water before putting in hot food, ice water before putting in a cold drink.

I don't think good thermos and budget go well in the same sentence. I have a couple of the metal thermos ones I have been using since my son was in K. He is now a college freshman. His sister still uses them, but they are not as pretty anymore. We went to Target to replace them the other night and the good ones were $17-$20. I said, nevermind, you can use them no matter what they look like!

Another vote for Funtainers. All of our kids have them. I use the Keurig to make really hot water to put in it for a few minutes to heat it up first.

We use Hydro Flask. LOVE love love them !! They cost a bit initially BUT haven't needed to be replaced. Ever. In summer, drinks stay COLD. Much colder than any other thermos I've ever used.

I got mine at Target. It's more like a Thermos bowl and I think it is around $12. My DD8 says her soup stays warm so that's all I really care about.

If it lasts that long then it is a good value.

Is this it?

My DS says it keeps his food hot and loves the spoon that pops out of the lid. It also comes in pink and was around $12 at Target. Not big on nuking plastic so I heat water in a glass bowl, pour it in to warm the container while I cook the food in the glass bowl, then pour in the container. Hope that makes sense!

We have this in pink, and it works well. We also have a funtainer thermos for hot, and one specifically for drinks as well. I put a pot of water in a tea kettle when I wake up, and let it sit in the funtainer for about ten minutes while I'm prepping her lunch. The food has been nice and hot.

At night, I just pour a tiny bit of drink into her thermos and freeze. In the morning, I fill the rest of it with the drink, and by lunch time ... it's still cold. She likes her thermos because her teacher lets her keep water in it during the day. She was actually mad when I packed her a capri sun. Who knew.

That's exactly it!!! THANK YOU! Of course, we have it in pink. Have to have everything in pink. :headache: Anyway, we have had it for a couple of years and she loves it. Sadly, we lost the little spoon but it was really too small for her anyway so I just pack a plastic spoon. She takes soup in it a lot so I just heat the soup up on the stove and pour it in. She has taken leftover pasta as well and left over chicken/mashed potatoes and they all stay warm for her.

I highly recommend it.
