I understand what Teresa means about the fruit candies flavoring the chocolate. I particularly hate when mints mix with candy because then you have mint flavored chocolate and mint flavored fruit. Yuck.

Does anyone else agree?

I was going to disagree until I tried my Milky Way bar. It tasted like cherry choc from being mixed in the bag. You learn something new every day. :)

I like my chocolate straight - no fruit, no mint. Well, maybe some caramel.

Fat absorbs odors and flavors. Try leaving your butter uncovered in your refrigerator for a few days.

Candy wrappers are not impermeable to air, so yes, the chocolate stuff can and will take on the flavors of the other stuff it is sitting in bins next to.

I have this issue with my mom all the time. She loves to bake and often makes trays for the holidays and special events. She just can't comprehend that you can't throw everything together on the same tray and then wrap it in plastic or put things together in a container. It all ends up tasting the same. Put peanut butter cookies with anything else and they all taste like peanut butter. Put mint things with others and they all taste like mint. Although it looks pretty to mix them all together, you really need to keep them separate.

Nothing ruins candy quicker than a pack of mint gum! Minty snickers, yuck.
