Did the trees produce a ton more leaves this year?

My aching back needs to know!

From 8-5 I hauled away barrel after barrel of ground-up oak leaves and that's only in the front. All this from someone who only has One Oak Tree There's something a foot here in my ankle deep oak leaves. This is the third time I've done the front.

I think it's a conspiracy, I think while I'm sleeping my neighbors are having their leaves blown into my yard. Why clean your yard wait long enough and they will end up in my yard.

Anyone else having oak leaf problems?

I figure if I stay up all night I'll catch the varmint in the act of disposing of their oak leaves.

We have a TON of nuts this year, Mamu. And I don't mean people, either.....

I've been hauling leaves and nuts like a madwoman. Last night my husband moved the bags I had filled and told me that he almost broke his back doing it. (Nevermind I had hauled them from the front to the back to begin with.....:p )

The leaf situation is grim also. All of ours fell at once. We had alot of rain last weekend and it knocked 3/4 of the leaves off the trees. They seemed to change late this year and were hanging on to the trees for dear life in their full glory....but alas.....

You have my sympathy!!!!! Growing up in Massachusetts was rough during raking/shovelling season. My sister and I were convinced the only reason our parents had children was for slave labor. We used to rake the leaves into piles and then rake the piles onto a blanket. We'd drag the blanket to the edge of the woods and dump all the leaves there. One year our dragging blanket got a big hole in it. Do you think we fixed the hole? ;) Lots of extra raking that year.

To make raking fun, we'd rake little square "rooms" in the leaves and then rake little paths to the rooms. We'd pretend we were smurfs who lived in the front yard. I can't believe I am admitting this... Of course, my older brother would have to rake with us once in a while and he and my sister would gang up on me and whip acorns at me. Don't get me started at the iceball attacks while shoveling the driveway.

Not too many leaves to speak of here right now, but a plethora of pine needles is covering our back yard. I think raking may be in order for next week. And why is it that the raking blister only takes like 2 seconds to form? ;)

LOL tigh...I grew up with older brothers and suffered the same fate as you.
And I hear you about that blister...it's an amazing feat of the body.

Is the worst of it over now Mamu? Is your back feeling better? No oak leaves here, just maple and linden. DH has a leaf vac and that really makes short work of it.

Very cool imaginative play TigH, and yes, I also know about older brothers. :) Smurfs eh? :)

We used to do something similar, but in deep snow, not leaves. We had a fairly large back yard, and we would make pathways (roads..lol) all twisting and turning, and shovel out little platform reststops. We could do this for hours. Some very happy times. :) All that didn't last long though, before it was time to clear the snow to make the icerink. :)

Buds, where are your gloves??? ;) :)

DW desperately wants to rake leaves tomorrow, I am praying it keeps raining so they are too wet :)
Thank goodness for leaf blowers!

I think I've inhaled too many ground-up oak leaves.

I know my neighbors probably think I've gone over the edge, because today I put my slicker on and raked out the herb and water garden area.

If it dry out tomorrow I grind them up with the mower.

I've got 2 more flower gardens to do. There saying blustery on Sunday. I sure hope the wind blusters in the opposite direction. I tired of oak leaves.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones...I just mulch all the leaves in my yard...my final grass cutting of the season..:)

We won't have the problem here in Florida (thank heavens) but in New Hampshire I finally got desperate and hooked up the grass catcher to the riding mower and just mulched away. Worked great as far as I was concerned. Not the pristine lawn my neighbors with the vacuums on their mowers had but plenty good enough for me.
