There is something that I just don't understand...Wilma related

My husband is a 58 year resident of Florida and he is always prepared for hurricanes. Because of his obsession we didn't have to go searching for water, food or ice. We bought 2 pounds of ice and it lasted until we got our electricity late Wednesday. Kept my insulin cool and that was the main thing needed. I can drink room temperature water and soda if necessary. Lost all in the fridge and freezer but ti wasn't a huge amount because we eat down the freezer goods during hurricane season and then stock back up after. Only thing we needed more of were C batteries but otherwise were fine.

You can spare me your holier-than-thou lecturing, please.

As Lisa has already pointed out, no one on this thread has said if you prepare then nothing bad will happen. No one. Not one person. Your argument is ludicrious, as you well know.

What this is really about, for you, is who's in the White House and the Governor's office. Nothing more, nothing less.

There's no reason in the world they should have been caught off guard, if they had a TV or radio. Doesn't matter if it's a Cat 1 or a Cat 3, you still should expect lengthy power outages and should know to stock up with food and water. It was all over TV, radio, and newspapers for what, a week?
Only ones I can see that might be caught unawares are deaf people. But they do have there own warning system through Florida Association of the Deaf which sends out warnings via email that come to the Sidekick and Blackberry phone many deaf consumers use for communication. I was getting these on my Sidekick well before the hurricane as well as reports from NHC. Those of us who have these devices check up on deaf friends without them and will either phone via tty or drive to the persons home to inform them a hurricane is coming and to prepare. Also after the storm when cell phones weren't work text messaging was and we could check on each other.

Wilma was no surprise to the government relief agencies either. They weren't prepared............again.
Actually they were prepared and things were nicely in hand by 72 hours after Wilma. Cannot think of a time where FEMA or any other group has been set up prior to about 72 hours (3 days) after a storm. Usually the first in is never FEMA but some of the church groups which are smaller and easier to get moving.

I live just south of you by Robert Morgan Educational Center. I have to agree with you completely. If you were not prepared then too bad. Btw we never got in that line at Metrozoo. What ice we got we bought at Winn Dixie. All of 2 bags which lasted until we got electricity late Wednesday. In fact the cooler was still cold this am when my husband put my insulin back in the fridge.
