Looking at historical refurbs on Stormalong Bay, it seems it's done about every two years. This coming winter would be in line for a refurb. But in the past it looks like these aren't very long refurbs.

Does anybody have any information on the likelihood of an SAB refurb this coming winter? My (selfish) interest is mostly in Presidents Day week this coming February. Thanks for any insight!

I don't see a Notice of Commencement for it at this time. Here is where you can look and follow progress.

They will be doing room rehabs the rest of the year, so I don't think they would do the pool at the same time

Thanks for the link. My paranoid thinking made me wonder if they *would* do a pool refurb at the same time because there would fewer guests being affected.

I suppose it would depend on the nature of the refurb but how soon might they have to file a permit? That is, when would we know?

If we place an order for water and snacks to be sent via Amazon Pantry and have it shipped ahead of our stay, will we have to go pick it up somewhere (business center, like at the Contemporary???) or will they deliver it to our room like a piece of luggage once we arrive? If we have to pick it up, will they charge a fee and how far will we have to lug it back?

Whenever you ship to a Disney hotel which has a convention center (such as the Yacht & Beach Club) - if your package is shipped UPS or Fed Ex, it is delivered to the convention center. You can walk to the convention center from the Yacht Club or Beach Club to pick it up. It's not a super long walk, but it won't be fun walking back if your package is heavy. I believe the convention center business office employees will bring your package to your room if you request it -- I have been in the office when they talked about a co-worker being out making a delivery.

The office in the convention center is run by an outside vendor. It charges a fee for handling your package. The fee is based on the weight of the package. The last time I shipped FedEx to the Beach Club was in 2012. At that time, the fee was:
Up to 5 pounds: $3
5-20 pounds: $5
above 20 pounds: $10

If you ship through the U.S. Postal Service, your package will be delivered first to a central mail facility at Disney World, and then sent to the hotel from there. The good news is, it doesn't go to the convention center. The bad news is, you have to leave extra time because there is a delay in getting it from the central mail facility to the hotel. I have never done this at Yacht or Beach Club. I assume your package will be held at the front desk.

I shipped to Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo House this year. That hotel does not have a convention center. My package was held at the front desk. When I called down to Bell Services to ask them to bring my two Owner's Lockers up to my room, I asked them to bring my package as well. They refused to bring the package. Apparently the front desk is not their territory. I had to go down to the front desk myself. I had the option of either carrying the box up to the room myself, or waiting for a front desk runner to bring it up to my room. I don't know if it works the same at Yacht & Beach Club.

If you are having a local company deliver, such as Garden Grocer, the situation is different. Those items get left with Bell Services.

Here is a quick report so far

We arrived at the BC around 10 am on the Fourth! We were magically surprised when we were given a 5 th floor room number and our room was ready . We were taken upstairs where we taken to our room that is over the balcony area. We have a full balcony with this view

!

Congrats on the pixie dust. Love your picture , you captured the side view of the Presidential Suite on the top floor in your picture. It brought back to mind our recent trip when we were upgraded to it. Enjoy your trip! Hopefully you have a great view of Frozen fireworks from your balcony and can avoid some of the craziness of Hollywood Studios.

Please add us to the Be Our Guest list, we are staying YC 7/28-8/7 and really hope to meet some of you....:woohoo:

I think I saw Couchy in Japan shopping for t-shirts!!! I buzzed her for 15 minutes but she couldn't hear me yelling "HI COUCHY, HI COUCHY!!!! Over and over again. At least she didn't try to swat at me when I went over to say hi like Eastern Shore Gal. She seems a might territorial when it comes to her fancy beverages and sharing with a fly :confused3 ;)

Signed your Pal Buzzy the Fly, your Beach Club Resort guy, who thinks that sharing is caring!

We spent a few awesome hours at SAB and watched the noon World Cup game at Hurricane Hannah's .

We then went to DHS to ride TSM and hustled over to watch Brazil and Colombia at ESPN and what atmosphere there was in that place. We sat at the bar next to a woman from Brazil who moved to the US 10 years ago. Fun times

When we went to the lounge at 6 I saw a past student who I coached soccer for 6 years and who recently attended her wedding! What are the chances. We talked for an hour and a half over some appetizers and a glass of wine. We made lunch plans for Sunday at Via ! Small world

That's all for now but a couple things

CL staff have been absolutely amazing and awesome . So friendly and so efficient . No complaints and we are grateful for the pixie dust.

I will keep you coming back for another addition as Olaf will make an appearance

DHS is crazy right now with Frozen summer! More on that later . It's DH 's b day so must pay attention to him !
:goodvibes awsome pixiedust: fantastic view!! Happy birthday to DH!! It is a small world! You never know who you'll run into. We ran into neighbours in Key West, in Mallory Square!!

Thank you! I won't be able to pick my shipping method with Amazon, and I don't want to have to track down a package anyway (it was a hike to do that at the Contemporary, and that was just one small item). I'll just go with Garden Grocer again. It's not worth what little money we'll save by going with Amazon to have to track down the package ourselves.

NinjaMom's Birthday???

Ahem.... THIIIIIS.......ISSSSSSS....YOURRRRRR......BIRTHDAY SONG! IT ISNT VERY LONG!

Thanks for the update on your dates- I'll revise the Be Our Guest list.

Sounds like a great request to me!

Congrats on your pixiedust:

That is a great view- I love being able to see ToT in the background.

I wonder where all of the BTGs are watching the soccer games. :scared1:

I will be meeting up with a family from my hometown while in Disneyland next week. One of Nate's favorite teachers (will hopefully be Ben's teacher next year), he helps plan the Disney class trip, so I worked closely with him for last month's trip setting up accounts and booking FP for the large group. His daughter and Ben are in the same grade and are friends. As Couchy said, "Small World!"

Hope the rest of your trip is fabulous!

:goodvibes

Just got an email survey today from our stay in late June

Thanks for letting me know! IIRC, you had some positive and negative experiences on your trip. Don't forget to mention CMs by name if you had any special interactions. It really matters!

:)

I have a question for our upcoming stay at the YC August 27-31...I've seen conflicting information.

Thanks for confirming your dates. I'll revise the list.

I believe you can also get a case of water from The Marketplace, for around $16.

:thumbsup2

Great question! I thought normal maintenance was done on SAB every year in the winter, in sections, 1/3 of the pool at a time with the remaining 2/3 staying open. But I don't think the pool was rehabbed this past Jan, so it is very possible work would be done this winter. I believe, but not positive, that normally scheduled work has been completed by busy President's Day week.

So sorry Buzzy! Guess I didn't recognize you from the riffraff of flies buzzing our table yesterday. What's up with that? However, if you ask nicely instead of buzzing around to get attention I just might find it in my territorial heart to share a frosty one with you. After all, that is what Couchy and I plan to do today.

So it is now day 11, our last full day. I had such good intentions of giving live trip reports but here we are on the last day with none to my credit. All I can offer in my defense is that you certainly lose track of time when you spend much of your day wasting away at SAB.

Let me preface this by saying that I can't begin to compete with Ninjamom when it comes to writing so I am not even going to try. I was catching up on about 5 days worth of this thread, laughing so hard DH left me sitting at the pool by myself shaking his head in embarrassment.

I did want to share some of our experiences and thoughts. We come often, particularly me, so we have experienced much over the years. We are a family of 3, me, DH and DD (16-rising senior). Needless to say our trips have evolved over the years-from mad rush to try to get everything squeezed into a long weekend to spending days where we don't even see the parks. Sometimes I plan a girls weekend and sometimes we come as a family. We are DVC members with points here and at Saratoga, although we almost always stay here.

Checkin-
We never use online checkin. Because we like to discuss any room options and in the majority of cases, due to such high occupancy in the villas, our room is rarely ready when we arrive anyway, we have taken Teena's advice and check in upon arrival. We arrived to check in around 7 am, having stayed off property after our drive in from Baltimore the night before. Can you tell we were excited to get back to our home away from home? Our one complaint upon arrival was that we did not receive a parking pass or a welcome home greeting from the guard at the front gate. In fact, the guard didn't even ask our names or check id when we said we were checking in. This surprised me a little. When we mentioned it later, the response we received was that the night security was a different department?? The parking lot was in what they call a hard close so we were particularly surprised. I am thinking they may not have had the arriving guest list yet but a welcome home would have been nice. DH checked us in and said the cast member who checked us in-Adriana- was friendly and helpful with our room, which was a studio. Check in was very quick and we were off to DHS to take advantage of EMH in less than 10 mins.

Room-
We had requested a quiet pool view with a larger balcony. Our requests were met. We also overlook the grill area which worked out well for us as we did use the grills for the first time this trip. The villas have 2 charcoal grills available on a first come first serve basis. Our room was ready around 1-very early for the villas. We didn't see the text for another hour and a half- like I said we weren't electing it! Great way to start our trip.

Gotta throw in some laundry- more later.

After switching resorts from WL, to CBR, to SSR now finally to YC for 11/9-11/15 for my 33rd birthday! So excited! I think we will arrive on 11/8 and do one night at BC before checking in on the 9th for FDVisa. Our first time at Deluxe!:goodvibes
