There goes Florida, part 10 WDW at last, but
Cast
Me Hilary, 48. Beginning to suffer from trip-planning overload, but looking forward to seeing some new-to-us parts of Florida.
DH Jeremy, 49. Looking forward to fishing opportunities in the Keys and on the coast, but could do without quite as long in Orlando.
DD1 Rhian , 19. Looking forward to forgetting university studies for two weeks anything else will be a bonus.
DD2 Amy, 15. Looking forward to first trip to IOA , Mission Space and the Hard Rock Hotel, but not looking forward to the prospect of being ill on the flights again.
Sunday, 11th April Easter Sunday
Today was designated as our non-park WDW day, so we had a leisurely breakfast at Olivias in Old Key West and then spent a while looking around the resort. Jeremy and the girls went for a swim in the nearest quiet pool and I did can you guess? the laundry
.
Wed wanted to play mini-golf this afternoon and couldnt decide between Fantasia Gardens, where wed played before, or Winter/Summerland, where we havent played. We got in the car and headed out of the resort and were at the junction for Fantasia Gardens almost straight away we decided to keep things simple and stop here rather continue on to find Winter/Summerland.
It really was too hot for playing golf
we were uncomfortable and went round more quickly than we wanted to, just to escape from the sun and heat. With hindsight, we should have left this until later in the day, but we had a meal booked at the Cape May Café this evening and didnt want to be late.
By the time we returned to Old Key West I was beginning to feel decidedly unwell, but put it down to the heat and dehydration. We spent a couple of hours relaxing and cooling down, and then got ready to leave for the Boardwalk and our meal. By now I was really feeling very unwell, but hoped I would probably feel better once we were on our way.
I was wrong. By the time we arrived at the Yacht and Beach Club and checked in for our Priority Seating, I wasnt sure Id be able to go through with the meal, but I didnt want to let the others down, especially as Jeremy had been looking forward to the Clambake all trip.
As soon as I tried the first taste, I knew I wouldnt be able to eat anything, so we explained to our server, who was most understanding, and asked if there was anything he could fetch to make me feel better. I sat; the others ate; then Jeremy tactfully declared it was the best meal hed ever had at WDW!! Well that made me feel a whole lot better!
I made it back to Old Key West, but went straight to bed and felt very uncomfortable all night. By the morning I was much worse and had what I shall politely call an upset stomach. I think youll understand how bad I felt when I tell you that I was very happy to stay in bed whilst the others went to MGM for the morning. Yes, I was that bad!
Monday, 12th April Easter Monday
I stayed in bed for most of the day but felt well enough to venture out to the Magic Kingdom for the evening Id already been on WDW soil for over 48 hours and hadnt set foot inside a park yet, I had to make an effort, didnt I? I took it very gently round the park, and was determined to stay to see Wishes - and if anything was worth waiting for, that was it. Id heard how much better this was than previous fireworks, but couldnt quite envisage how it could be that different. Now I understand what everyone meant it was just amazing.
Tuesday, 13th April
I was feeling much better this morning, and we all went to Animal Kingdom. We took things slowly (I still wasnt eating anything, so didnt have a lot of energy), and enjoyed a more leisurely visit than we might otherwise have had if Id been in commando mode!
By the time we were on the bus back to Old Key West, Jeremy was beginning to feel poorly, and when we got back to the room he went straight to bed.
Oh dear would the girls get it too?
After wed all had a rest, and whilst Jeremy stayed in bed, the girls and I went to Epcot for the evening. I soon realised that I was trying to do too much, too soon, and wouldnt be able to stay the distance to watch Illuminations, but we managed to see about half of World Showcase before I felt I should leave. We made our way towards the exit and saw there was no wait for single riders on Mission: Space, so Amy decided to do it. As all the Fastpasses for both Mission: Space and Test Track had been issued before we arrived in the park this afternoon, we were pleased to find that Amy could try Mission: Space after all. She wasnt very enthusiastic about it when she finally emerged, but she was pleased shed tried it.
When we got back to Jeremy, hed had a rotten time and was feeling pretty awful. At this stage we were beginning to wonder whether hed be well enough to drive down to Miami for our flight home in two days time. I was just keeping my fingers crossed that neither of the girls would come down with the same thing for the journey it was very unpleasant being ill in the comfort of our room, but it would be awful in the car or on the plane.
