I can't find the search feature, so forgive me if this has already been posted.

Does anyone have any experience with carrying on Theraputty on a plane? Both DD11 and DS use Theraputty to help with anxiety & sensory needs. I was planning on bringing it on our flights in April but panicked wondering if it's a banned substance. Web searches come up with conflicting information. Some deeming it like explosive material. I can ask TSA when I call to set up our screening assistance too, but personal experience is welcome.

My guess is that unless you can clearly demonstrate that it is for medical use, it would have to go into your checked luggage.

The TSA web site has a search function for articles/substances, and if they are approved. Not sure this would come up, but worth a try. Is it similar to Silly putty or play-doh?

It might be allowed. Do you still have the original container with the label? That might help. Also be prepared for TSA to possibly open it and potentially swab the putty. It is dense, but can be opened and stretched to prove what it is. I would recommend declaring it upfront before going through TSA.

Enjoy your vacation!

I would have some in a checked bag just incase the agent refuses to allow through. granted you will not have to use n plane.

Yes, it's like silly putty or playdoh. I'll try searching for it on the TSA site. I have no problem with them swabbing it. We leave lots of extra time for issues. First plane ride my son decided he wanted to go through the detector 5 times. We had our own lane & 3 agents to help us because I had called for help. They were more than happy to let him do his thing.

For others, silly putty & playdoh are allowed per the TSA search. There's a listing for Crazy Aaron's Thinking putty that's a more gel like product like slime that is restricted to the 311 rule. Theraputty is like a super soft silly putty that keeps its shape, does not flow like slime.

Play dough and other putty may be allowed but it can cause problems. Play dough looks like plastic explosives also there is an ingredient that can set off the explosive detectors. Expect extra scrutiny and they still may take it away.

on one flight for grandsons Wish trips had small playdough cans which our TSA agent almost said no to when he looked at bag and that they were all though bag he said he would let it through as he did not want to hold up line while I found all the small cans

I have traveled with it in my carry on...I never even thought it might be a problem as it wasn't liquid (also traveling with reusable ice pack which was my main concern but they never even said anything or further searched the bag it was in.

We have traveled many times with the Crazy Aaron's Thinking Putty with both the mini and regular cans in our carryons and never been questioned.
