Theft

Hi DCL friends
Has anyone experienced theft at the Disney beaches?
I have never had to worry about theft on a Disney ship or on Castaway Cay. 13 cruises, btw. The cruises are so expensive now, that people who would be motivated to steal money/phones/purses just aren't onboard. (Teens taking FE gifts or decorative magnets are a different issue.)

The Disney parks are a completely different environment, much more accessible to the general public, much less expensive (especially Disneyland, where so many locals attend via cheap annual passes). So you need to be more careful there than on the ships/private island.

I haven't been to Lookout Cay yet, but my understanding is that at least parts if it are accessible to the general public. In that case, I would be just as careful with my belongings there as I would in any other public location.

Never had a problem. Doesn't mean there couldn't be one. Don't bring expensive items-cameras, jewelry etc. that you would be heartbroken if they were lost or taken. I bring a GoPro with me for snorkeling. I never leave it out in the open. Always tuck it in a bag out of sight or take it with me if I am walking around.

Been on these boards forever and while I have not personally experienced any theft (been dozens of times at CC) there have been a few reports over the years of items stolen at CC. Like anywhere, just because it is Disney does mean it is immune from theft. That said do not bring anything valuable to the beach and it won't be an issue.

Cruises in Feb 2025 and May 2025 haven't happened yet, unless someone stole your time machine.

FWIW my niece had a Coach diaper bag stolen off her stroller at Disneyland while they parked it and went inside a restaurant for lunch. She figured since it's Disneyland there wouldn't be any problems with theft. wrong.
LOL. my apologies, I do cruise every year at the same time last week of Feb and last week of May, but these thefts occurred this year in 2024. I certainly hope I have nothing stolen in my future cruises.

There have always been reports of magnets disappearing. Sometimes simply moved to other doors, sometimes taken.

Honestly, just as I'd never leave something like my Kindle or my phone laying around in plain site, if something meant a lot to me, I'd not stick it on the outside of my door.

I only ask because at Look out Cay the lounges are so far away from the beach. I would have to leave my stuff at a lounger then go across the bridge to water.
Which ship will you be on? We went to Lookout on the Magic last month. We got off the ship at 8:30. We got chairs right on the beach. There were a lot of chairs available for about 30mins. If you're on the Fantasy/Dream it may be more difficult to get a chair on the beaches unless you get off asap. We were away from our chairs and never worried about our stuff. Have been to CC 8 times and have never had anything taken.

Not exactly accurate. I have arrested doctors, lawyers, etc for stealing before. When I got them they had plenty of money to buy the items. They chose not to and stole instead.

Reminds me of a YT I saw recently (one of those cops type accounts) where a lady was caught shoplifting at a Target. She was a serial shoplifter, and she stole smaller things like granola bars and such stuff, not big ticket items.
It turned out she was a *director*(!!) of a renowned hospital in southern US, making 6 figures salary for years.

Stealing/shoplifting/gambling/other addictions are a type of serious mental disease. I feel bad for those that suffer them.

what "stuff"? You really only need a hat, towel, sunscreen, and room key/ID to return to ship.
Sunglasses, rx glasses, hand wipes, camera, our own snorkeling gear, medicines, the bag we carry it in, etc. We use a Kyss bag that has a chain to lock it up with a combination lock. I'm not worried about theft, but why leave a temptation for an opportunist.

We only take our cells because they're also our camera. I just slip it in my bathing suit cover pocket and never have had an issue but it someone steals my phone they're also stealing my reading so I'd really miss it.
