ISLANDS OF ADVENTURE
Everyone woke up today refreshed (well as refreshed as you can be when the kids are up at 6.45am) and ready for our first Universal adventure.
I was looking forward to this very much and DS (6) could not wait to try out the spiderman ride.
When we arrived at the front gates we all took in the scenery at The Port of Entry. The little tavern-like shops certainly get you in the mood for the day ahead.
As we entered the park you cannot fail to spot the Hulk ride and desperate as he was to go on it straight away, DH agreed to go on Spiderman and I must say it was absolutely fantastic. I am not a fan of the 'rollercoaster' so for me this 4D effect ride was brilliant. Everyone loved it and we took advantage of the baby swap so DH and DS got to go again (although DS shut his eyes for most of the ride and spent the rest of the day asking whether it had been any good).
Both kids outside Spiderman
DH then proceeded to go on the Hulk. I declined the invite, this ride is HUGE and Grandad was feigning some kind of back injury. The funny thing was DH's face after the ride, I can honestly say it was green!!!
From here we went towards Seuss Landing and the colours in here are amazing. Both of my little ones love Dr Seuss and DS (6) had great fun soptting all the characters from the books. The Cat in the Hat ride was fun (but I was glad I didn't take DS(2) on as this ride spins quite quickly, too quick for most toddlers) and we took advantage of the child swap again!!!
Seuss Landing was a lovely place to walk around as the characters and colours were great to have a rest and just look at - (check out the fish on the way in, great fun when they squirt you!!) We of course sampled Caro-Seussel which was very good.
Onwards to Toon Lagoon and again the colours here were amazing. We met up with Popeye and Olive and headed for the Bilge Barge Rats. DS(6) and Grandad went on together and came off practically dry so I was encouraged to have a go. I got absolutely SOAKED!!! So much so we had to purchase a towel after the ride (the towel stall was conveniently situated right outside the ride). It was only at this point that Grandad turned around to show us his wet backside !!!!
It was quite cold at this point so we went to the Comic Strip Cafe for lunch which I thought was nice and very reasonable.
One thing which I found annoying were the fairground type stalls, tempting you (or rather the kids) to part with your cash for a chance to win a toy. I thought this was a bit unnecessary and reminded me of our Theme Parks so I hurried the group through towards The Lost Continent.
We had a wander around The Lost Continent and bought some manky popcorn on the way to Jurassic Park but DS (2) had fallen asleep by this time so we went on to grab a coffee at the right moment as a small thunder storm hit.
I had rather underestimated the size of this park and we were all glad that we had purchased the flex ticket so we could come back as it became clear that we were not going to manage to go around The Lost Continent and Jurassic Park today.
However, we ventured back to look through some shops and then went on to the NBA restaurant for tea. This was superb - excellent value meals with more on the menu than just burgers, the kids loved it as they had massive screens showing basketball games inside. Once again the service was commendable and we went home from the park feeling like we were getting to grips with the holiday.
I was concerned at first that there would not be a great deal for DS(2) to do here and I was right to think that but Seuss Landing made up for this in a way as he could enjoy walking around and looking at all the familiar characters. Again the park was less than busy and we did not have to queue for a single ride all day long which certainly made the day a breeze.
