The Y - Too Much $$$$$$$$

Hi DD17 and I went and checked out the YMCA in the next city. It was very nice but it would cost over $700.00 for a yearly membership.I know that I could quit anytime with no extra charges. Now I think that we will take our basement/laundry/storage/furnace room and redo the end section for our very own work out room I bet for under $100.00. Mainly just dust off our equiptment, clean the room up, throw down a cheap rug and decorate.

Funny thing cause I was just saying to someone the other day. The Y's slogan is something about the Y being for everyone and I was like well no not really. It's wayyyyy to expensive for most.
I was a member years ago and even then it was like 35.00 per month just for me. I think just to go for a swim if you aren't a member is like 8-9.00 .
Yeah crazy $ for a family to join. Not on our 1 income family anyhow...plus I gotta drive to the next town to go so ...not happening.

Hey Mollyseven. Me too. a one income family, and we live in Paris Ontario and have to drive to Brantford. DD and I hopefully will try to do this on our own, with what we have at home. My sister inlaw did join the Y so we can get some pointers and help from her. I feel like but want to be like . DD17 graduates from grade 12 in late Oct. So maybe I will be fitter by then,then Disney in March next year.

I agree with you! The YMCA is very expensive! I cut my membership from a "family" to a "youth" every summer since I never go in the summer. That saves me about $120-$180 per year and my DD can still use the pool and spash play area and I don't have to pay another registration fee when we join up again for swim team in the Fall.

BTW: If you are truely in need, the YMCA does have scholarship programs. I know a family that was able to join for free and her kids joined swim team for free ($400+ for two kids) because of their income level.
