I'm starting a scrapbook as a baby gift, and want to include a "What was the world like the year I was born?" page. I know to put current prices on it - a gallon of gas, a loaf of bread, etc. - and I can just write those ones down at the grocery store, but where do I find the average price for big things like houses and cars? And what else should I include from news, sports, etc.?

Houses is a hard one - it will totally depend upon where the house is.

Consumer Reports list MSRP prices for vehicles.

I guess the major sport stories - like who won the championships, who got drafted out of high school for whatever sport, who won the Kentucky Derby.

For news - who is president, new laws passed, new Supreme Court appointees, the oil spill is big news this year, oh and how many hurricanes is an interesting one.

How about popular movies of the year (i.e. Toy Story 3) or most popular TV shows (i.e. Glee).

Include local news stories besides just national news.

Include big Disney news for 2010 like World of Color and 55th Anniversary. If you have one, how about a picture of the Mickey at the entrance to Disneyland. This signifies 2010, since it changes just about every year or two.

HTH. :earsboy:

Thanks for the tips so far! They're all a big help, and I had completely forgotten about music.

Popular hair styles, fashions, popular hobbies/fads (those silly bands come to mind), the World Cup games, Broadway shows, world's tallest building, books on the best seller's list, "firsts" or inventions (ipad comes to mind), world leaders, google earth pictures of popular areas (like the first neighborhood where the baby will live)..........P
