The Wine Experience on DCL?

While I would not consider myself a wine connoisseur, we really enjoyed the wine experience on our Celebrity cruise 6 years ago. (The sommelier, wine tasting, etc.). We just received our papers for our Land and Sea on Wonder coming up May 6th, and were wondering about the wine experience on DCL.

Specifically, there was a comment in our papers about a $25 corking fee for wine not purchased on board. I thought you were not allowed to bring outside alcohol on board? We are celebrating a special occaision, and it would be fun to bring a "sentimental" bottle with us.

Also, there was a brief comment in the "Passport to Wonder" about a DCL wine club where you can get a discount on wine selections throughout the cruise. Anyone know what this is about, and is it worth it?

Does DCL have a sommelier present at meals?

I'm not positive about the Wonder, but on the Magic there is a wine package you can purchase for your dinners. On the Magic (7 nights) the standard package is about $145 and the premium package is about $265. What wines are included in each - haven't a clue.

I'll bet that there is a similar deal on the Wonder.

And yes, you can bring alcohol on board with you, they just request that you carry it on, not put it in checked luggage.

HI You can definately take along that special bottle, as before must be in carry on in a plastic bag not in checked luggage, you can enjoy it in your cabin with no corkage charge but if you wish to enjoy while dining there will be corkage,

Unless this has changed of recent, the Corkage Fee onboard both the Magic and the Wonder is $15 + 15% automatic gratuity for a total of $17.25.

Just a thought - Was watchng the Travel Channel 2 weeks ago when they had their Cruise specials and learned something I wanted to pass on. For proper aging and storage of wine, "you must keep it is a cool place and motionless". Then the special went on to say "A ship moves". You can make your own judgement at what they were getting at as I am not a big wine drinker in the first place. Just wanted to pass it along. - Mike

I saw that same special--during "cruise week".

In any case--it was in reference to vintage wines I believe--in other words, paying a high price tag for a wine that requires these conditions, isn't worth the money as these conditions cannot be kept on ship.

i was planning on taking a case of beer and some wine. do i have to carry this in or can i check it is with my suitcase? what if i got malibu that comes in a plastic bottle can that go in my suitcase so i don't have to carry it around?

Please don't put any alcohol in your checked luggage. We came home from a carnival cruise one year, and appartently someone on our flight had packed a bar in their suitcase. Our luggage was so saturated with someone's spilled alcohol that everything we owned smelled like a brewery! I would hate to have that happen at the start of my vacation!

Why not order the captains cheese platter and have your sentimental wine in your room..save the uncorking fee.

The wine tasting is very nice on DCL..definately go...sign up early as the spots fill up quickly.

Yes, there is a sommelier present during meals in the evenings.
