The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

I had a dream the baby came this Friday!

I have found those dreams to be pretty accurate. Good luck today and get your bag packed, just in case!

Vickie -- I'm sorry you're dealing with man flu. Try to get out of the house if you can.

man flu is the worst! Wonder if we can get the CDC to start working on a vaccine for it
 I'm glad you got your phone working again.

Have a wonderful trip, Maria, and don't feel guilty! You and Greg deserve to celebrate, indulge and thoroughly enjoy yourselves. You'll come home feeling rejuvenated.

Thanks everyone for congratulating Liam and the team! I'm a bit worried about him today. I told you he was exhausted when we came home last night, but he also had a terrible headache and a low fever. He woke up later than usual this morning, but no fever. He just came downstairs a few minutes ago, after spending most of the morning in his room, and the headache and fever are back. He says nothing else is wrong except for the headache and the fever isn't high enough to be flu or anything like that, so I am :confused3 I gave him Motrin and a bottle of water and put on a movie. We'll see how he is in an hour.

Today the PTO is having an appreciation luncheon for the teachers. I made a big pot of clam chowder for that, but I took out a bowl's worth before I dropped the pot off this morning, so I am having that. I'll probably make mac and cheese for the kids, or whatever else Liam feels like eating.

Ann~ maybe tomorrow? Please rest....

Still not packed, sitting here with coffee, Lily & the Dis.
I decided why I didn't pack was because I wanted to hear Leona's results in case we needed to cancel & also I'm having a big issue with what to pack with the people that are used to Cunard cruising....I think I need a self esteem check:confused3
I wanted to share with all of you that this cruise is a gift from my Mom to Greg & I. After all the miscarriages, illness, hospital stays, infertility treatments, moves, downsizing she wanted us to celebrate what we have survived & that it has actually made us stronger.
I have shared with Nancy that I have had major guilt about taking something so costly as a gift but with the help of Nan she taught me that Moms give from a loving place & she wanted to see me experience this. Not accepting would have caused my Mom heartbreak......I'm sure all you Moms understand that but I'm just not 100% there. Thank you Nancy for holding my hand through this, I love you.

Going for hair, mani & pedi at 3:30.

Enjoy every second of your trip with your wonderful husband, and make some cherished memories, your mother would not want anything less for you. :cloud9:Baby News !!!!!!! :cloud9: I had my appointment and we are making more progress. I am 3 cm. dialated & 50% efaced. I told Dr. about my dream and she said it would not surprise her one bit if I went tomorrow. Dr. guesses the baby's weight to be 7 1/2 to 8 lbs. My BP was 120/85, and I gained a pound. Emma's heartbeat was a strong 138. If nothing happens over the weekend my next Dr. visit is Monday. Cross your fingers for a baby over the weekend.

Lauri, I know cortizone did wonders in my wrists. I hope when you have it you find some relief. Glad to see you posting.;)

F&W ladies - we now have a pic for our sig for F&W '09, courtesy of Catherine - TDC Nala!!!!!!!! Please copy it into your sig!

I would love to but dont know how....as Homer would say " DOH !! "

Hi, everyone!

I'm typing this from my brand new iMac! I love it! It's so beautiful, and fast, and shiny, and no crumbs in the keyboard, etc.!!! It still has that new computer smell!

Anyway, I'm relieved to see that Emma hasn't made her appearance, yet. I would have hated to miss that! Ann, I'm keeping you in my prayers!

Vickie - I'm sorry about your sons illness. No fun at all! I hope your husband feels better soon!

I loved all the pictures of the meet! Looks like you all had a wonderful time. I'm so jealous!

Well, as soon as Alan gets the backup files loaded onto this computer I'll pick up the TR. I've got all the pictures ready to go, so it should be smooth sailing pretty soon!

We have had an interesting week here. On Sunday, I came down with a cough. It was nagging, and quite persistent. Monday morning, I got up early to go jogging, and couldn't make it very far. It hurt to breathe, and the cough was worse. Later that morning, I developed a runny nose to go along with the cough. As the day progressed, I got worse, and worse. By 3:00, I was in bed with the chills. They alternated with sweats. Then I got joint pain. Every joint in my body ached! From my toes to my neck! It was awful!

Alan took me to the doctor on Tuesday morning, and they did a flu test. It came back positive for H1N1! Yup, I officially have swine flu! I got on Tamiflu quickly, and it has worked quite quickly. Now, though, Alan has it, Katie has it and Mary has it! It has affected us each differently, but we're getting through it. The doctor says that Timothy should be pretty protected since he's nursing. He's getting my antibodies, and the Tamiflu as well. The one we're most worried about is Leslie. She was born with weak lungs, so it could go to pneumonia on her very quickly.

So, we're quarantined here in our house, which seems to be getting smaller and smaller each day! I think there is such a thing as too much togetherness! Oh well, we're surviving, and it's not been as bad as I feared. The doctor said to consider ourselves lucky, since they are looking at the Fall as being a time when the virus becomes even nastier, and since we've had it now, we won't be getting it again! I guess that's a silver lining.

All my prayers for all of you! Take care of yourselves!

Ann -- Wonderful news! I think your dream is going to come true.

Lauri -- I'm sorry you are such a frequent visitor at the doctor's, but the cortisone shot should really help. Greg got one in his shoulder after he fell down a slope in Ranger School, and it gave him relief almost immediately.

Lauren -- I forgot to congratulate you on your weight loss. You're doing great!

Glynis -- I'm so sorry you are all sick. When Liam started developing his symptoms I was worried it could be flu.

Liam is feeling a little better now. He doesn't have a fever anymore, and he says the headache is gone. Maybe he was just dehydrated.

Hey y'all,

I apologize for not checking in & keeping up! I am feeling fine, but keeping Alexis from being bored takes every single minute of the day! Mostly we are having fun, swimming & cooking. But I'm trying to work with her on reading & there is a lot of whining & crying going on with that.

She did fine on the audition. She wasn't her usual animated self but did well. She was accepted to LA. Kids.

Sorry I still haven't loaded the vac. pics to FB or PB! This weekend isn't going to help me catch up either. Alexis has her music recital Sat night, dancing Sunday night. I have a wedding tea for my niece Sat afternoon & of course Sunday is Father's day. All good stuff, but no time to catch up.

I'm sorry to learn of troubles & sickness some of you are dealing with:grouphug:!

Glynis, Almost the whole family with swine flu! I'm so sorry, I hope the tamiflu really helps! My prayers are with you all for a super speedy recovery!

Lauri, I'm praying that the cortisone shot won't be too painful & that it will help the pain quickly!

Laura, Glad that Liam is getting better!

Maria, I hope that this is the most wonderful trip! I hope you accept your wonderful mother's gift without guilt & just enjoy!

Ann, I'm happy to hear you & Emma are doing well! And that she may be here very soon! Prayers it will be very soon! :flower3::hug:

Kat, I'm sorry you've been down & struggling with finances! Please call me if you need to talk or if I can help in anyway! I know even with tops, having them live away from home can get costly. We contributed as much as we could, Angelina got student loans and worked all through college. After getting her out of school & paying for the wedding, the last couple of years our finances improved & we were able to pay off some of her loans. She still has loans for getting her MBA, but they are managing that.

Kat, I will check with Bob & let you know about our plans on the Meet. I know we want to make sure we get to meet everyone who's there!

I haven't been able to read back on everything, I did skim through & see the pics of the Meet! Wow you all looked beautiful & like y'all had a great time!

I'm so happy that Nan was there to help see you through this. She has been there for me countless times. She is 100% right, this gift was from a very special place, enjoy and cherish every minute.

Is he any better?

Seen the Dr.yesterday and now I have to get a cortizone shot in my my groin of the hip I had replaced. So sick of Dr.s but they are all so kind.

Alan took me to the doctor on Tuesday morning, and they did a flu test. It came back positive for H1N1!

OMG!:scared1: You poor thing, you and the whole family. Wish I was closer and could help with meals.:grouphug:

Well I'm done with the auditor until 6/30, she'll be coming back to finish it up that week. Overall I think it went well, we'll see what's in the final report.

Marilyn, when are you leaving? Did you find Ellen’s dates? Have a great trip!!!

I leave in just a little less than 48 hours. :woohoo::scared1: I didn't find her dates so I don't know if she will be there beyond Sunday and I am not sure what all we are doing yet. I do know that Saturday and Sunday are pretty much completely booked with family stuff. If anything I am hoping we may be heading to the same place at the same time. Being as swamped as I have been at work I really didn't get a chance to ask her about anything and I think the Dis ate a PM from her. :rotfl: It still says I have an unread PM but it doesn't show. :headache:

I was kind of hoping you would go till the 23rd;). That is my DN's birthday, she will be 9. Where did the time go? :sad2:

Whenever you have her, congratulations in advance as I might not be able to get online while I am gone.

Dinner tonight will be whatever. Not much in the fridge. I may just throw a turkey burger or chicken breast on the grill since it has FINALLY stopped raining! :woohoo:

She was accepted to LA. Kids.

Congratulations to Alexis! Have you tried the Fancy Nancy books with Alexis? Those seem like they would be appealing to her. I wish I still had Caili's younger books...I would send you a huge box! She loved Madeline, Fancy Nancy, Angelina Ballerina, Olivia and the Little Quack books. There is also a website starfall.com that Caili enjoyed. I don't know where Alexis is in her reading, but that is great for beginners.

Well I'm done with the auditor until 6/30, she'll be coming back to finish it up that week. Overall I think it went well, we'll see what's in the final report.

I'm glad that is mostly over. Now we get to hear from you more! :)

Thanks for asking about Liam. He seems better...I am keeping my fingers crossed. My mom is a nurse and has seen some swine flu cases, and his symptoms are similar to what some people have been experiencing. I am hoping and praying that is not what this is, since he would miss the rest of the baseball season and Caili has her big districts championships competition next weekend. We just can't be sick right now.

it has FINALLY stopped raining! :woohoo:

Oh, I think it is just starting here. The weather report this morning had it raining until Monday. Yuck!

I am supposed to go to my neighborhood book club this evening, but I am waiting to see what happens with Liam. If he spikes a fever before bed, I am sure my neighbors would appreciate me staying home.

Thanks for your good wishes, everyone. We're truly doing much better. That tamiflu is amazing stuff! Not cheap, though! With 4 of the 7 of us on it, we're doing our bit to support the pharmaceutical companies!

Sheryl - What kind of problems are you having with Alexis's reading? I used to be an English teacher and might be able to give you some ideas to help things along. Just let me know what level she is reading, and what you've tried, and I'll help all I can. It's sometimes a tough thing, but reading is so important for kids. Sometimes they can't see it. One thing we've started doing (and I can see it helping Leslie), is to set our DVD player to show subtitles during the movies. The kids actually do quite a bit of reading that way. Of course, it helps that we don't let them turn the volume up really loud, too. They have to read to hear over the babies cries!

Kat - I'm glad that your audit is over. What a stressful thing! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it all went well for you!

Ok, I'm off to see if Alan is done uploading all my files from the old computer. If all goes well, there will be another installation of the TR soon! Keep your fingers crossed

Congrats to Alexis! She will LOVE it. I know tons of kids that grew up in it and enjoyed it so much!

I'm keeping Liam in my prayers that it's not the flu.

How I wish y'all could send us some rain. It is MISERABLE, have to keep all the blinds and curtains closed to try and help the A/C from not having to run 24/7. Forget trying to do anything outside until after dark....and the worst part of it is the Gulf is heating up quick, you know what that means:scared:....I'll stop whining now, bbl...

Day 3:

Sunday morning dawned grey and drizzly! It was not looking like a good beach day, but Alan promised me that it would burn off soon, and the kids would have a great time at the beach. We packed up the hotel room, loaded up the van and we were off. Unfortunately, this really nice hotel didn’t have a continental breakfast, so we decided to just munch on granola bars and find something to eat closer to the beach where we were going to meet my brother and his family.

We contacted them by phone, and they were already at the Crystal Cove State Park just waiting for us. It took us about another 20 minutes to meet up with them, and then we began the trek down to the beach. We took the baby in the stroller, our beach bag, chairs and kids down a long narrow flight of stairs to the beach below. I’m sure we were a sight! This beach is known for the tidal pools that are created when the tide is out, and the kids had a ball exploring them! It was kind of chilly, but not too bad. My kids stripped to the bathing suits and they were off! They found crabs, sea slugs, anemones, and starfish. They had a marvelous time digging up shells in the sand, and exploring. Alan and my brother, Addison, were great with them. They kept an eye on the little ones, so that my SIL, Dana and I could watch the babies on the beach. Timothy was fabulous! He was content to sit in his stroller and watch the waves. Dana’s baby, Chris, dug in the sand, and brought us shells to see.

We weren’t expecting to hear from my Dad who was traveling with my sister and her family, for several more hours. Imagine our surprise when they called at 11:30 to let us know that they were in Orange County and looking for us. At that point, we decided to pack up our spot in the State Park (since the kids couldn’t take any of those shells as souvenirs) and find a nice sandy beach where the kids could play in the waves. We arranged to meet up with my Dad and his crew at a beach a few miles up the Pacific Coast Highway.

On our way, we stopped at a grocery store, and picked up some more sandwich stuff. While we were waiting, we made lunch for our hungry crew! As we were finishing, up drove my sister’s family in their van. They ate some lunch, and then we found parking spots on the street so we could walk to the beach. It was only about 2 blocks away.

Once on the beach, we set up chairs for Dad, me and some of the others. The kids all ran for the water! It was darling to watch them jump in the waves, and get braver and braver! While the younger ones were in the water, Alan took Katie and our niece, Marina, to a small pier close by, and they discovered starfishes that they could actually pick up. They were thrilled. Alan gave his cell phone to my BIL to keep it dry and he waded in the water to get enough starfish for everyone who wanted one.

After about 2 hours on the beach, we were all ready to go. The sun still had not shown it’s face, and we were getting chilly. The poor kids had blue lips and were shivering! We packed up and started to the vans. BIL decided to get a couple more starfish for his kids, so we left them on the beach and told them we’d meet them at the vans. It wasn’t until our kids were all loaded up that we remembered that BIL had Alan’s phone. We crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. Not much we could do about it by then! Unfortunately, BIL had forgotten he had the phone, and it took quite a dunking in the ocean. Totally dead! At least we still had my phone.

At this point, we formed a caravan to get to our hotel. We were staying at the Park Vue Inn. It’s the same place we’ve been staying for the last 14 years that we’ve been going to Disneyland. It’s directly across the street from the main gate, and is technically the closest hotel to the parks. We like it, as it’s clean, and there’s a continental breakfast. Nothing fancy, but enough to hold us.

When we got there, we got checked in and met up with my other brother and his wife. They had flown in from New York State with her parents for the trip. It was great to see them again! Once we were all checked in, we literally threw our kids into the pool to get the sand from the beach off. Well, Alan stayed with them, while I unpacked in our room. As I unpacked, I realized that I had forgotten to pack Timothy’s sun hat! I was so mad at myself! Alan offered to take me to the store to pick one up. We decided to go to the character warehouse store in Fullerton. Dad and Marina went with us. We found hats to go around, light up toys for the kids for 1.99, and a stuffed animal (Pip from Enchanted) for Katie. It was a productive trip for us!

When we got back, the kids, who had been swimming with cousins, were ready to eat dinner. We got everyone out, showered and dressed and loaded up the van to go eat. We decided to go to a Chinese place that Alan and I found several years ago. Yummy food, huge portions, and quite reasonably priced. We ordered 2 plates with 3 selections on each and split them between us. There were 6 of us eating, and we still had food left over. A good deal, all around.

Once we got back to the hotel, we got the kids in their pajamas and went to the breakfast patio to watch the fireworks over Disneyland. This was to be the last showing of the fireworks, as a new show was opening on June 12. There were no other fireworks scheduled for our trip. We met up with the rest of our extended family, and had quite a fun time watching the show! We could faintly hear the music, and it was just lovely. Once it was over, we all hit the beds, and were asleep very quickly. The busy day had certainly taken it’s toll on us!

:scared: <<<called "scared" but is more like "cringe". I thought there was a smiley of a guy diving under a chair in fear but I don't see it...

Hi! :wave2:

I just wanted to pop in and say hello...I've been lurking...I've been busy and things are getting done. I have an address, I got my car loan approved, and I have an appointment to go into my new school to fill out employee paperwork. :woohoo:

Work has been...the usual. :rolleyes1 I know most have you have seen my Facebook updates. :lmao: I work with some idiots...lemme tell you. At least I'll be living with the nobodies in the State of New Orleeeens soon. :rotfl:

I had to get a new phone. I couldn't deal with my old one anymore. It was a hot mess. I :lovestruc my new phone. :goodvibes (Blackberry Curve 8900). I've got this plan that has like unlimited everything on it. Minutes, texts, photo messages, internet... :rolleyes1

In 18 June days, we've had rain for 12 of them. For the 10 day forecast....it could rain on all 10. I've got water dripping out of my walls. It looks like coffee. I'm hoping the building is structurally sound and will not collapse on me. :scared: And oh yeah, I'm hoping it's DRY the day we load the truck...which is coming up mighty soon!

I've missed this thread so much! :grouphug:
