The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Morning all,

We had another full night of sleep!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1: He is on a roll. He slept from 7:30 - 6:00am.

My Dad was feeling better so he decided to push himself and is now very sore again. He frustrates the heck out of me. He had a meeting to go to last night and refused to take his cane because of pride!!!! He is so pigheaded.

For dinner last night we had salad, swiss steak, mashed potatoes, and peas.
My Mom makes the best swiss steak.

WFD- marinated pork terryaki, green beans, and potatoes.

I will be back but I am worried about Gretchen. I believe she lives in the area of the fires in SC. I worked for a company once that was in her town and I think it is right there.

I need to get out of bed then I will try to call. Yes, I woke up and grabbed the laptop...

Morning all. School is closed today and I am in early, we have an all day program today. I need a nap!

I have a male cardinal outside my window this morning. Every year we get a bird that is fascinated with it's reflection in our windows. For the last two years I think we had the same bird, it would go from window to window day after day tapping and looking at itself.

Scotlass- how did I miss that you were having surgery? I am so sorry that you are sore and hope that you have a better day today.

Aimee- Weddings are about the couple but they are also the celebration of families so I am always amazed when one side or the other is disregarded. Hugs to your Mom, I would be heartbroken and feel badly for her. Perhaps your sister has handed this off because she really was not the driving force behind the wedding "party", and her fiance and his family had their heart set on it.

Lindsay- just keep letting us know you and your family are doing okay.

Gretchen- you are near fires????? I have not seen the news in days! Hope that all are safe!

Bethany- once again...............I am :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:. NYC is going to miss you terribly but I have a feeling that NOLA will never be the same :rotfl:

Try changing your allergy meds. I need to change mine once in a while, it is as if by body gets used to new and once I change to a different one I feel better. Right now the generic claritin OTC works well after years on Clarinex. You can always take a separate decongestant if need be.

Ann- YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sleep is good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am really going to cook today. I hope. I also need to grovel and get into thte hairdresser today or tomorrow. My last cut has lasted over 8 weeks adn I seemed to forget taht I needed to make an appointment so all of a sudden it looks like I got plugged into my electrical outlet :scared::scared1::eek:. I felt kind of narcisstic about why I needed to get my hair done like NOW! until I talked to my cousin last night. She also begged her stylist to work her in for the same reason as me.....she cannot go "to Lawrence" looking like this. My Mom's family was born adn raised in Lawrence/ Methuen and my Aunt will be buried near her DH. Most of my cousins still live in that area and neither one of us want to be seen looking like a trainwreck!

My Aunt is still the same. We are not staying all night right now, the nurses have promised to call if anything changes in her respiration, etc and Pat is there really early so we are pretty comfortable leaving her for a few hours. I don't know what today will bring but Marisa said to bring Nola to her if I want to go during the day.

Janith's bone marrow biopsy is today. We are praying for good news. This chemo is killing her and she needs some relief. Among other things, she is more than ready to come home.

Praying for good news.

He sounds so much like my Dad.

I didn't hear about this....

WFD - Sloppy Joe's and sweet potato fries.

Morning ladies! Just thought I would poke my head in before heading out the door. The kids have got school pics today, so I've got to make sure they look pretty ;) Which also means, I'm doing last minute laundry b/c what I want DD to wear is dirty. Hmmm, think I should have thought about this last night. I think my mom will make spaghetti tonight for dinner for the kids. I seem to leave her the same stuff every week, but the kids will eat it. And they spend so much time at the park after school, she doesn't have much time to prepare anything.

Lindsay--praying for good news!

I spoke with Gretchen...

She is not as close to Myrtle Beach as I thought so all is good on that front. It is in the resort area so she mentioned being comcerned with tourism.

She thanks us for the good wishes and prayers. Her Dad decided to go to Houston for experimental treatment. Her Mom and Brother are going with him...I believe in the next few days.

Continued prayers...

Lindsay - Continued prayers for Jan. It is not easy to go through chemo! I hope this all works for her.

Gretchen - Continued prayers for your dad. I'm so glad that you are not near the fires!

Ann - Woohoo on getting DS to sleep through the night! Would you mind me sending Timothy to you for lessons? J/K! I know that Timothy's only 5 months old, so I shouldn't be expecting that, yet. My other kids all spoiled me in that regard.

Dinner tonight will be Italian pork chops. It's a new recipe from a magazine, so I'll let you know if they work out.

Today is errand day, and a trip to the library. I've just finished two books and need to pick up some more! The 2 that I finished, I can really recommend. "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan", and "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society". Good reads!

Just taking a break from my cleaning...nesting has kicked in I guess!

I just finished going through DS closet and finding some of the infant stuff I wanted to locate...bumpers, mobile, neck rolls for swing & carseat, bibs, onesies etc. Then I tried to pitch some of his junky toys when he was not looking. Everytime I would find something it was new to him and he had to have it.

Next big job I want to do is my tupperware closet and the pots and pans...maybe tomorrows nest job.

I have not really read and caught up with everyone but I just wanted to send prayers and hugs out to all...I know I will miss someone so please forgive me. Thinking of you especially Gretchen, Lindsay, Maria, Scotlass, Ellen, Sheryl, & Nancy.

Hugs to our two little babies!!!

Scotlass, what is your first name? Sorry if I miss it but I feel bad I always use your screen name.

Be back later :flower3:

Dinner last night was just leftovers. Tonight I am making guacamole, black bean quesadillas, and rice.

I have a pair of redtailed hawks building a nest just above my office window. It's pretty cool. I have my camera and am getting some pictures. Yesterday they were being....exceedingly affectionate on the ledge. I guess that is when you know it's spring! :rotfl:

I'm glad that is not close to her; she doesn't need another thing to worry about right now.

I am reading Twilight  Did you read it?

Not sure about dinner... I am going to a kid's project presentation at 6pm so I may just grab something on the way home from that.

I am reading Twilight  Did you read it?

I read the whole Twilight series. I thought they were ok. I then read her book "The Host" and was blown away by it! I'm not necessarily a sci/fi fan, but this one is one I loved. I checked it out from the library, and after the first couple of chapters, ran out and bought my own copy. Loved it!

Hey Y'all,

Gosh it's hard to keep up here!

Lauren, How is Andrew, was it strep?

Hi All....Today is a little rough but I'm dealing.
I'm not sleeping well but I think it has to do with the position I have to stay in.....I'm also on steroids again so that makes me fell really odd & 2 weeks of antibiotics.

I'm glad you checked in! I know you are feeling horrible now, but it will get better soon, I promise! Glad that sweet hubby is taking good care of you. Are you taking a pain med too? That plus steroids really makes me feel strange & unable to sleep well.

My mother is coming for my sister's wedding - she is getting hitched week from Saturday. I feel very removed from the wedding :sad1: Mom will be spending lots of time with Granddaddy next week; she will be staying with me but my week is already swamped so I won't be hanging around much with them, sadly.

Aimee, I'm glad you'll get to see your Mom! But I'm so sorry about the wedding. I know you are hurting over it. I wish I had some wise words to make you feel better. I don't but I do have prayers:flower3: & hugs:hug: for you!

Did I tell you guys that my refrigerator died? I am so mad. It just keeps getting warmer and warmer. I have all my perishable food in my supplimentary beverage refrigerator. The beverage fridge is a small dorm style fridge, so this will not be a workable solution for long.

Becky, That really stinks, I'm sorry!

Hey all! Tried to post earlier on my phone but it went crazy on me. Kept deleting everything I would type. It was probably operator error; still not quite sure how to handle all that technology.

Kathy--yes, I think Kris did great last night. I had trouble voting, the number wouldn't connect for the longest time. Hoping that means a lot of people were voting. There was a big watch party here last night, but since I was at work, a no go for me. They are drumming up lots of support for his homecoming concert if he makes it to the final 3. Pretty cool.

Stephanie, Did the phone keep deleting when you backspaced? It did that to me & Chris told me I was holding down the backspace key too long. I seem to be getting better at it, I think it just takes time to get used to the "keyboard".

I'm a day late watching AI, we watched both shows last night. Kris was wonderful, as was Adam! I think America got rid of the right ones this week.

Hi, everyone!! I'm here, just been lurking. I really feel like I haven't been able to contribute anything to the thread so I've just been reading.

Janith's bone marrow biopsy is today. We are praying for good news. This chemo is killing her and she needs some relief. Among other things, she is more than ready to come home.
Lindsay, Prayers for good news on the biopsy! That leukemia is an awful mean disease. Continued prayers for Jan.

Nan, Prayers for your Aunt & the family. I hope you can get in to the hairdresser! I've gone & done the same thing, forgotten to make an appt. Last week I went & colored my roots myself. My hairstylist will have something to say about that. (That's if I ever get in!)

Glad Gretchen's home is safe, she doesn't need anything else to worry about.

Continued prayers here too.

:lmao: I can't say that Redtailed Hawks Getting it on is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of spring!

Aimee, I'm on the 4th book in the series "Breaking Dawn". I'm so enthralled with this one, I've been going to sleep way to late every night.

Scotlass, You're having surgery? I must have missed that. What's going on with you? Sending prayers o'er the water to you!

Dinner last night ended up being filets on the grill. Bob has had quite a few bad bad days at work. ( The audit they had could cause them to lose a million $ job. They've had engineers from all over the world descend on them this week & it sounds awful.) Anyway I cooked some yummy steaks, creamed spinach & baked sweet potatoes. We had a very leisurly dinner on the patio & slowly sipped a whole bottle of expensive petit syrah wine. We were albe to talk, get all our troubles off our backs & feel better. It was nice.
 I do love that man.

Quick check in...I am off to the doctor for my 6 week visit...

Andrew and I a having tacos tonight.

Sheryl, Strep throat is a highly contagious bacterial infection. I am keeping myself and the baby far away from him. It's killing me not to be able to snuggle with my sickie. After 24 hours on the antibiotic he will not be contagious anymore.

Ciao for now!

Glynis, I just checked it out on B&N online. I added it to my cart! I'm almost finished 'Breaking Dawn" and was looking earlier for something to follow it up with. I was thinking about the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, but I couldn't "see inside" any of those, so I'm not sure. I did add an interesting sounding "historical" novel. "Figures in SilK" by Vanora Bennett, set during the War of the Roses. Have you read it or anything by that author?

Lauren, I'm sorry Andrew has strep! I know it must be hard not to baby him right now.

I forgot to say, I've decided on July for the surgery. But I still haven't spoken to the dr about it. I'm hoping I will finally hear from him today as he isn't in surgery. Unless he tells me it's a very bad idea to wait that long it will be July. Then would be better for Chris & Angelina to help us out. I won't miss my niece's shower or wedding & Alexis will have at least some of "normal" summertime.

It sure sounds like it! From your posts your Cajun knows how to take care of you when you need a little pampering as well :thumbsup2 Now my Country Boy has his heart in the right place but his reaction to me having a bad day would be to ask if I was hungry, ask what I wanted and then bellow "Risa! make your Mother tea...then will you run to the store and pick up ......." ;)

If your Dr thinks this is a good plan then go for it! IF not....promise to try to come up with what is best for you.

My poor Buddy is going through Kady withdrawal :sad1: He helped to move them in last night and Donny told me it was pathetic. He was drooping an at 6'6" that is a lot of drooping. This morning he told me it was way too quiet here and that it felt awful. I told him that our goal was to help them get into a nice home. "Them......not her!" Oh dear. That little Princess is going to have to visit a lot...I can tell!

Nan~Poor Buddy, he must be heartbroken not to have Kady all the time.
To much going on in your world my friend.......Prayers for your Aunt continue.
I understand about the hail color/salon issue. I insisted on having my have colored before my surgery because my thought was if I never woke up I would hate people to see me with all the roots......I inherited the hair issue from my Mom.....

Lindsay- Praying for Jan. What a hard road she is on.

Gretchen ~ I hope your lurking but I'm sure Lauren shared all the thoughts & prayers that are coming to your Dad.

Lauren, poor "A", can't the snuggling start tonight? I hope so.....

Sheryl thinking of you as always.

Ann sent you a PM but not sure if it went through:confused3

Ellen, hope your feeling better, thinking of you.

Glynis, enjoy the library!

Kat, your FB comment made me cry (happy tears).

Bethany, fun time at the zoo!!!:cool1: To bad your not there today in the beautiful weather.

If I missed anyone please forgive me......

Nan you know when you've been married as long as I have that my earlier lovey dovey attitude does not come along very often!;)

Aww, I feel sad for poor Buddy & I know Nana must be a little teary about it too. Won't you still have Kady after school?

How is your little Nola doing? I hope all is well on that front.

and a ps to Marisa, Congratulations on your New Home!!!!
