FYI it's on tonight and tomorrow night. I'm more of a cat person than a dog person, but I love watching this show every year :dog:. It's on CNBC right now, but was on USA earlier. I think it continues on USA tomorrow night.

We were watching for awhile, but our family likes more of the bigger dogs. Toy group was on while we were watching. Tomorrow night is the working group which is our favorite. I really want to see a breed that is new to Westminster which is the Leonberger. We have to catch the St. Bernard also as we have a purebred which is a rescue and our last dog was a St. mix.

DH and I used to like to watch those shows. Then we picked up a "pet quality" GSD from a show breeder. At 6 weeks she was half-sized, so even though everything else about her was perfect, she was supposed to be a 40lb GSD. . .when it becam evident at about 4 or 5 months to the breeder that she wasn't "pet quality" (she caught up in size) but one that the breeder should've kept back for show, the breeder tried to get us to show our baby.

Well, we got a real education into the world of show dogs.

Annnnnnnddddd what those puppies go through? What the show folks do to win? Makes the kids and the moms on Toddlers and Tiaras look like sane, well-adjusted, normal people with a low-cost hobby that doesn't sap their free time.

Needless to say, our GSD is a couch potato. We don't kid ourselves, she's pretty enough that people who know the breed stare at her, but there are a LOT of pretty GSDs in the world; there's only one big ole' Mess in our lives and I couldn't do that to her!

(Now, agility, obedience and rally-o along with herding trials are things I could watch all day and can absolutely support. Our Mess did agility for a while and loved it. But not the dog beauty pagents.)

Just MHO. You're perfectly free to disagree!

And when you are done watching the dog show, check out the movie Best in Show :thumbsup2:lmao:

Oh, I've seen Best in Show .

Like I said, I'm not really a dog person in real life. But once a year I just like seeing the different kinds of interesting dogs on TV and not having to smell them or have them jump on me, lick me, chase me, bite me.

An acquaintance of mine shows terriers. I live "right around the corner" from Madison Square Garden, and I was going to go this year to cheer him on, but something came up and I couldn't make it. I am going to try my best to get there in 2012.

I love watching this, and try to see what breeds went into my big old lovable mutt :)

A close friend has a black lab that will be competing tomorrow. I am keeping my fingers crossed for her, it would be so exciting to see him on TV!

I'm watching!

The Pomeranian last night had be cracking up with that 360 degree turn!! I loved it!

we love watching the show. My dd15 shows dogs so it is always fun to watch any of the dog shows on TV because we end up knowing quite a few of the dogs and handlers on TV!! We also have gone to Westminster in the past but didn't go this year. My dd really wants to show at Westminster some day

The Pom was the most spirited, I was hoping it would win.

The toy poodle looked almost embarrassed with that haircut.

I'm not crazy about any of the breeds that have won any of the categories yet. There were other dogs I liked a lot better. I REALLY wanted that Golden Retriever to win :lovestruc.

My breeder is there. We also showed our dogs for our breeder. Almost every show dog in our breed (rare breed, so know most of the show people) is also a house couch potato. That is if they aren't working out in the fields protecting their flock.

No hairspray, no crap with our breed. A wash, general maintenance such as nails clipped, some trimming of the cords to make them even - and trimming the ones under the butt to get the, well, use your imagination off. Our breed doesn't even ever get brushed. No toddlers and tiara stuff - thank goodness!

What is the name of the super cute lamb-dog?! I think I need one of those!

I was rooting for the Weimaraner

That's likely the Bedlington terrier.

I love the Cairns, we had one when I was a kid. We own a Smooth Fox Terrier right now.
