Sunday 24th Aug

We all woke up Very Excited and Raring to go, we headed down for breakfast
at the Holiday inn which was very nice.

we had dropped our bags off at twighlight check inn the night before so we
took our time and headed over to the terminal and headed up to security, Jordan was a bit worried he would beep a lot but the funny thing was he didnt and we all did.

Security checks all over we decided to check on our flight , this was when we wished we had checked earlier. We are now delayed until 2.30:headache:
so we wander around for a bit then decide to have a coffee in frankie and Beny's

We manage to while away a couple of hours watching the planes taking off and landing.

Many Coffees later we are finally able to make our way to the Gate, Our Mood lifts and we think we are finally on our way

There is a massive queue to get into the waiting area so we head to the loo then Join the throng

Once in and settled somthing dosent seem quite right lots of Virgin cabin crew
are walking backwards and forwards and whispering in hushed tones ..mmm

Then came the start of lots of Very Frustrating Announcements

"Virgin Atlantic is sorry for the continued dealay, engineers are on their way to fix the problem please bear with us as your safety is our Number one priority"

as a very Nervous Flyer these announcement were slowly tipping me over the edge, it didnt help when we looked out of the window and saw half of our planes parts strewn across the floor and lots of men with spanners:scared1:

The Room we were in was becoming increasingly hot and uncombertable and the only time you could get out was to go to the loo and this took forever as you had to leave boarding passes etc on the way out and then queue again to reclaim it on the way back in.

When the Virgin Cabin crew came back with sandwiches and Juice and water
DH and I KNew the Problem was getting quite serious:headache:
We Spoke to a lovely lady of the cabin crew who seem to take a liking to us
and went out of her way to Keep us updated on a regular basis.

She Told us that Hot Lips was having Engine Trouble :scared1:
she also said that that at six oclock it was the end of this crews shift and it was up to them whether they stayed and then it depends if virgin can get together a stand by crew things were not looking good.

The Boys were getting quite upset at this point as they didnt know if their Holiday was going to be cancelled again :sad2:

The room we were in was getting so hot and uncomfortable, we had started
Chatting to a couple who had a disabled son and they were having difficulty
getting staff to undersatand that they needed to get Nappies etc of the plane as they were running out

the Next announcement that came was "WE are pleased to Announce the engineer has found the part that needs to be fixed and its on its way" yippee things might be looking up:rolleyes:

So we whiled away another hour or so all taking turns to go to the loo( this got to be quite a source of entertainment:rotfl: )
Then we Noticed all the Cabin crew had gone things did not look good.

Then came the most dreaded announcement of all

Virgin Atlantic is sorry to Announce that your flight has been cancelled
but customer safety is our number one priority, please collect your yellow pass from our staff then make your way to baggage reclaim to collect your bags

This is when confusion reigned nobody seemed to know what anybody else was doing.

we collected our five tickets and then headed to the virgin customer service desk
Virgin then left us all stranded here for a very long time and tempers were wearing thin I was very proud of my boys as this had been a very long day(It was going to get longer) and hadnt complained our made a fuss :thumbsup2

eventually Virgin sent one poor guy, who I felt sorry, for to lead us all to collect our bags then we were lead to a MASSIVE queue outside the Hilton hotel (Virgin did hand out bottled water at this point)where we were eventualy allocated rooms.

Two eldest Ds in one the rest of us in another we were also issueed with a letter which informed us that dinner would be served from 8.30 until 11

We needed a break from all the Chaos so we dumped our suitcases in our rooms and headed back into the airport for a calm down and to find some
Juice for the evening.

We tried really hard to see the funny side but after everything that had happened before our holiday we did feel a bit sorry for ourselves.

Next we braved dinner, Have to say this was organised very well. We walked in and we were given a table and a massive Jug of coke and water then told to help ourself to the buffet.
This was Salad selection. Chicken in sauce, fish, potatoes, pasta, bread rolls etc and choclate cake for dessert. We couldnt belive how quickly they organised all this.

On the way out we were handed a leaflet which said check in would begin in the morning at 4.30 am:scared1: ( we should have known better with virgins track record)

Have to say the Delay was really annoying but virgin did organise things quite well, the thing that really let them down was the lack of comminication once the flight was cancelled quite a few people ended up wandering around the airport like nomads.

sorry no pictures today but I totally forgot I was far too stressed

after sorting through our suitcases for clean clothes etc ( we couldnt belive we had to check these in again!!) we settled the older to boys into their room and then headed to ours and set the alarm for 3.30.

Hubby and I tried to sleep but I think we were both so unsettled we managed to keep each other awake I thing we eventually nodded off at some unearthly hour.

Tommorrow- More Chaos but we get there in the end

Good grief! What an unexpected way to spend your day. Still we wouldn't have it any other way if there was a suspicious looking "part" on your plane. Better that one day of your vacation was wrecked than . . . well, we don't want to finish that sentence, do we? I trust that the next part of your story will have taken a turn for the better.

What a nightmare start to your trip. Things can only get better now.

You poor things - I would hate to be delayed that long. :sad2:

Oh no, poor you. Am looking forward to reading your trip report when you eventually got there. Hope you had fun and it was worth the wait.

What a nightmare start  I look forward to reading about you finally arriving in Orlando :thumbsup2

Hopefully the next part of your trip report will be happier
Well done to your boys

thats so awful. :sad2: it seems like forever waiting at the airport anyway, without the extra time.

Oh i am sorry, that was not a good start, especially after what had happened previously.x.

Oh no! After everythign that's happened, you didn't deserve that. x

Looking forward to tomorrow when you get there! :D

It seems so petty now to moan about a couple of hours delay after reading what you had to put up with. I too am a very nervous flyer and I know I would have been a wreck.

You poor things

So sorry to learn that your holiday started like this. This is my dread a big delay outbound.
