We bought DVC today and changed our upcoming reservation to Bay Lake Tower for 4/27-5/4/12 so we needed to change our ADRs for the first night to somewhere convenient. We settled on The Wave at the Contemporary. Does anyone have any experience here? We have two DDs, ages 12 and 3, and none of us are too super picky about trying new foods. Any reviews are much appreciated!

I've never done it but heard good things. You could also do Chef Mickey's or take the Monorail to the Grand Floridian and hit 1900 Park Fare.

We really like The Wave. In fact it was the first request for our DD5 for our upcoming trip --before any character meal. She wanted to go to "that restaurant with the pretty tiles on the wall where they serve 3 small desserts on a tray"

The food and service there is really good. It is also fairly peaceful and relaxing.

The Wave is very good. Its a nice restaurant with something for everyone.

Another option would be Ohana's or Kona which is an easy monorail ride from Contemporary. Kona has fantastic food. Ohana's has great food with a fun atmosphere your kids will enjoy.

Chef Mickey isn't available that night :-(

Great! DH thought it looked a little fancy to take the kids...glad your DD enjoyed it!

Thanks for the input! We actually have 'Ohana scheduled for breakfast AND dinner already on this trip, but I want to try Kona so that's an option too!

We ove the wave. Discovered it the first time we stayed at CR when we needed a place to have dinner on our last night, and w've gone out of our way to go back a couple of times. The food is good (as good as anyplace in the world) and it's not as crazy or expensive as many places. I will say it's "california" food... might want to check the menu on AllEars.net, but they have something for everyone.

Our family of 4 went to the Wave for the first time in Dec and will not return. We went on a Sat nite, and it was not that crowded. Service was terribly slow, the portions were tiny (we are not "big" eaters, but even by our standards the portions were tiny. Two of us had to send our entrees back as they were under cooked. On the plus side, the desserts were nice, but we will not be returning. Good luck.

We tried it and were not impressed. The room was noisy, food nothing fantastic, menu limited. It felt like we were dining in a cave.

I thought the menu looked pretty decent. We will be on the DDP, so my 12 year old daughter will qualify as an adult. I'm sure she could find something on there. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the honest advice! We are going to be arriving at BLT and wanted somewhere close by to have our first TS meal on the dining plan. Any options that you recommend in the general area (Monorail loop) other than Chef Mickey (no availability) or 'Ohana (already have breakfast and dinner scheduled there)? We would prefer to only use one credit, so we haven't really considered Signature dining.

We have not been to The Wave for lunch or dinner, but I would definitely suggest going for breakfast. We went there for their sweet potato pancakes because they no long serve breakfast at Boatwright's. They were soooo good!! They have a buffet there too. You could also go over to the Poly and eat at Kona or over to the the GF and eat at the Grand Floridian Cafe.

It is a lower key Disney dining experience. Menu options that should make everyone happy. Enjoy!

We enjoy going there when we stay at BLT. You can't beat the convenience of the location and the food is very good. Our kids always find something to eat. And your DH shouldn't worry. It's not too fancy for the kids.

As long as you are not picky. Prob a good place to eat although it is $$ for smaller portions IMO. But I am picky. The wave is not a place to expect to be able to sub, I mean we couldn't even get fries. only roasted potatoes. My kids were not impressed.

I would take the boat over to Trails End, Roaring Forks or Whispering Canyon. Monorail to Kona's.

They are all better then the Wave

Thanks for all the helpful responses! My only concern is DD12 since she is considered an adult on DDP. She's not super picky, so we might be OK. I'm also considered the Kona Cafe as a "safer" choice for that night because I know we would all love that. The only reason I didn't book it was because we are already eating breakfast and dinner at the Poly that week ('Ohana for both) and didn't know if that was too many meals at the Poly.

The Wave is the only other restaurant in the MK area besides Tambu whose bar is open all day – a relief when we took a park break in the middle of the afternoon. The bartenders were well-informed and affable.

We LOVE the wave and actually cancelled a reservation at 50s prime time to go back. We ended up staying another night and needed a place to have dinner, so we picked the wave randomly, cancled the prime time and came back. We paid out of pocket for the first night. Definitley worth it.

The desserts are a fun option and offer something different than what you normally see.

You can also ask for a smoothie in place of your pop or drink option if you are on the DP and that also includes the kids meals. It comes with a straw made out of recycled paper which was neat for the kids. We had 3 kids ages 7 to 10.

We have the lamb and LOVED it. The environment is modern and comforatble.

A definite recommendation.

I will say that we love to cook and are food snobs, so we probably enjoyed more of the plating and presentation more than the normal person.

Good Luck!

Hate to be the dissenting vote, but we hated it. We were there a year ago for lunch. I had a human hair baked into my food. The food was not good and another table was complaining of their drinks being served in dirty glasses.

Check out the allears.net website to show your DDs the menu. You can get an idea if there are things on the menu that would appeal to your entire family.

We personally LOVED the Wave. Best meal we had the entire trip. I've never tasted a French Onion soup like theirs. It was amazing.
