Does anybody know how long it takes to walk from Epcot to MGM? I like to walk but would it be better to take the bus? Is it a mile, two miles? I'm going Saturday and I am definitely going straight from Epcot to MGM... I just didn't know if walking is feasible. TIA for any advice.

Its a pretty decent walk, I would think that it would take almost a 1/2 hour-45 minutes. I would take the boat from international gateway to MGM or the bus IMHO.

The walk would probably be about a 30 min walk.. and with all the stops on the boat, you might get there not too far after the boat..LOL
It is a nice walk though, mostly on flat ground with a few minor hills.. If the weather is nice, and you are not in a mad rush, i would say to walk.. it really is a pretty walk.

We usally walk home to the YC/BC at the end of the night at MGM, and we have beat the boat several times..

I strolled leisurely along a couple of weeks ago and it took me 25 minutes to get from the turnstiles of MGM to the bag check at Epcot IG. Very enjoyable walk! :sunny:

I take this walk often just for exercise. Depends on how fast you walk but I would say about 20 minutes or so from the back of Jellyrolls to the entrance of MGM. Great walk on a pleasant day! ::yes::

We decided to walk from E.P.C.O.T. to the Studios this past Oct. Left at the same time as the boat, and stopped for a drink on the way. We thought that we would take a "short-cut" thue the Resort, turned out that we made several wrong turns. Never-the-less we still arrived at the studios well before the boat. I would highly recommend the walk as a way to relax before hitting the crowds again.

Especially this time of year...perfect for the walk and its so nice along the water by MGM and then walking past the Epcot resorts. We walk it with our little kids so its not bad at all. And, I think it definitely beats the buses!

Take the boat, but it will take around 40 minutes.

The walk from Boardwalk to MGM is kinda skeevy. :o It passes under several bridges with spiders and it isn't the best maintained.

The walk from Yacht Club/Beach Club/Boardwalk to Epcot is very nice though.

The walk is about 30-45 minutes, taking your time. We've done both the walk and boat and enjoy both. The boat takes usually 45 minutes, by the time you board, make other stops and get to your final destination.

Just a matter of personal choice. I like the boat better at night...more romantic!

Is the walkway marked? I've always wanted to try it sometime if I go when the weather isn't too hot, but I have no idea if I'd be heading in the right direction ;)

I've found no major maintenance problems on the pathway ... maybe a cracked sidewalk tile, but that's nothing to be alarmed about. It's also well lit at night. As far as the spiders, well, I'm bigger than they are, so I'm not too worried. (and there's only 1 bridge that you go under)

We walked the last two trips and enjoyed it! We walked most of the time and rode the boat twice when we were out of gas ;) .
I didn't see any spiders, etc. when we walked. :rotfl:
It was peaceful, a really nice walk. The boat was a nice break when we were tired from running through the park all day. It all depends on how you feel. Enjoy!

Thanks for all your replies! I think I'll walk - it sounds like between 20min and 30min is the norm. I too would like to know if there are signs to point you in the right direction? The poster that said they took wrong turns made me wonder...

Hi Joe

As always, there seem to be many opinions here on Dis. I will simply add my personal (recent) experience, and you can make up your mind at your leisure. :)

On 21 Nov 2006, DW and I were leaving MGM after a wonderful Brown Derby dinner/Fantasmic/Osborne Lights experience. We were staying at the BCV. As we exited MGM, and looked to our left, we saw a very large crowd waiting for the Swan/Dolphin/YC/BC boats. Based on the size of the waiting crowd, we guessed that we would not get on until the third boat, so we decided to walk.

Mitigating factors which may have helped us walk faster:

1. We did not spend all day at the parks, in fact we arrived (by boat) at MGM at about 3:30-3:45. All we did was have an early dinner at the Brown Derby, stroll to see the 6:00 PM “opening” of the Osborne lights, stroll to see Fantasmic, stroll back to see the last “dancing” lights segment of the Osborne Lights, then left the park at about 8:00. Not exactly “commando” touring.

2. It was COOL. In fact, this was the night that snow flurries were reported in Orlando.

3. It was just the two of us. No small children in strollers or walking/being carried.

Mitigating factors which may have made us walk slower:

1. I am 53 years old.

2. I am only 6’ tall, but weigh 240+ pounds.

3. I was (am) dealing with a knee problem (torn cartilage, arthritis). I seem to move fast enough (once I get started), I just “feel” every step, so if I get tired, this can slow me down.

That being said, we stepped out smartly, and the approximate time from the gates of MGM to arriving inside of our room at the BCV (4th floor, room 406) was about 25 minutes.

As far as the “path” itself goes, it is a sidewalk, made of concrete/cement or some similar material. DW and I discussed it on the way back, and we believe it was 8-10 feet wide. We found the walk to be mostly flat (a little downhill as you leave MGM, a little uphill when you get to the Boardwalk). It was well lit, and although I could not actually measure the distance between light posts, I counted 20 “normal” (for me) steps between lights (I did this 4 or 5 times, and came out with the exact same count each time – no I’m not all that anal about walking distance, I was thinking that this information might come in handy for a message on DisBoards someday, so I counted).

Also, on a different night, I timed how long it took to get from the main lobby of the BC, to the International Gateway, and that was 5 minutes. So I think that a reasonably healthy adult can make it from MGM to EPCOT in about 25 minutes.

Sorry to be so long winded. You have posted so many pictures that I have enjoyed so much, I just wanted to give you as complete and accurate an answer as possible.

As an additional note – We were about 5 minutes into our walk (once we hit the actual walkway – it’s almost 5 minutes from the gates of MGM until you hit the walkway), we saw the first boat headed toward the waiting masses outside MGM. We continued at our same pace, and this boat did not catch up to us until we were at the big archway sign for the Boardwalk. We got back to our room MUCH faster by walking.

Happy Holidays.

Yikes!!

I took so long to answer your question that you had alrady responded to the other posts!

Oh well, as far as getting lost, I don't think that that will be a problem. As I said in my earlier post, the sidewalk is 8-10 feet wide and well lit. I automatically presume everyone has more common sense than me, and I found my way without any problems, so you should be fine.

Happy Holidays.

It's approx. 25 to 30 minutes to walk, and when you take the boat they tell you that it's 25 minutes from EPCOT to MGM with the stops along the way at the Boardwalk, Beachclub, and Swan and Dolphin. If you're going to have to wait for 2 or 3 boats, you're much better off walking.

Great! I appreciate your very detailed response, posts like these are what makes the DIS so awesome, IMO. And thanks also for the comment about the pictures, I'm glad people seem to enjoy them as much as I enjoy posting them...

Cheers!
