The Waiting Game! Advice?

Now that we "took the plunge" I am going nuts waiting! I used to fill my time by studying DVC and cruising the internet for that perfect contract. Now I am just waiting on ROFR. Anyone have tips on how to make waiting more tolerable? Sure I could go work out, do some yoga, learn to sew, or learn a second language, but lets be realistic. I'm not going to do any of that. Ideas? Advice?

Well, you could read every thread on this site and that would take up a chunk of time. For me, the contract we just bought was the 4th one we'd tried in the past year, so the time went by really quickly . I think I only counted the days once toward the end.

It's amazing how much I still can learn from these forums on the ins and outs of DVC. It might be fun to study all of that so that you can be an expert at using your points when you pass ROFR ! Good luck!

ROFR wait didn't get to me much.. Paid more to get exactly what we wanted..
However the wait from signing closing doc, to points posting drove me NUTZ!

So here is my advice which can be used for both..
Start planning a trip! If your not a commando style planner, maybe try it..

Don't pick out dates.. Plan by what month you like to travel.
For us it's oct. I planned a 10 day trip. From packing lists, dinning, what park what day, resorts visits , down to what ride order!
My DH swears I'll have it down to how May steps buy the time we get to go.. ;-)
I don't thinks its a waste of time since I know, I will be going back at some point in oct.
Plus it was fun and really help pass the time..
It takes at least two weeks for this stay-at -home commando style mom to get everything planned..

I am hoping the time passes quickly. We actually have a trip coming up in June. If the dates work out we could actually be in WDW when we get the news. Till then I will obsess some more over the Disboards!

Very funny initial post Wendy!! I know the first contract we bought seemed to take forever. My answer, start shopping for the second contract right away!
That one went quicker, since we already had point to play with. Even rented some since we bought a loaded contract.

Just agreed on terms today for our 3rd!

You could spend your time looking for another contract. Not to get you worried or anything but your offer seems low. That's just me. I know Disney does not take many AKV points, but $64 seems low.

It gets worse as the 30th day approaches. I'm at day 25 and the anxiety is building with every day. Soon it'll be every hour then minuet then second then millisecond!
My advice is..... You're doomed. Your post says it all. You're just like me paralyzed by the waiting game, so sit back and enjoy the anxiety roller coaster that's aptly named ROFR. The one comfort we have are the disboards, and I thank the people on it every day for helping me keep my sanity. THANK YOU!!!

I just bought a cash resale.

I played the "doomed" card. That way if it's taken I don't get upset. I then was VERY excited when it passed.

Then I was upset getting my cashiers check for $20K

But then happy its paid off!!

I read the DisBoards to gather information to determine average wait times for each portion of the process (ROFR, closing, receiving member #' ect) then created a MS Project schedule to guesstimate when I would hit each threshold....yes...I over-analyze things. Still waiting on my member number.....

I think I'll take that suggestion of getting a drink now.....

This is why I am worried. I thought $65 was low too, and DH had intended it more as a negotiation point, however the seller accepted. I am still scoping out some of the resale sights to see if there are any contracts that fit our needs so we will be ready to make another offer if needed. Thank you all for the great advice. It helps to know that I am not alone in my anxiety!

The good thing about buying AKV is that if the worst happens it shouldn't take too long to find another contract.

Can't advise other than to say it gets much worse than the ROFR wait. The wait after the deed is filed but the points are in the account is the worst, because you've already been waiting two months.

I guess I'd say go out and live your life. Sitting staring at a computer screen isn't going to make the time go faster.

Part of my wait is over. We just passed ROFR! Glad that's over and since we're not going till next June I'm ok with the rest of the process. I think....
