Not a show I normally watch, but DD mentioned there had been some interesting topics on it recently, so last week or so I started watching it now and then (or taping it and watching it later)..

Anyhow - DD said that this show is Barbara Walters "baby" and originally she was the main host on the panel.. So why is it that Whoopi Goldberg now seems to be the main host? Doesn't matter to me one way or the other - was just wondering why BW seems to be taking a "back seat", if you will..

Even though it is Barbara Walters baby she has always let others have reign. Whoopi is great keeping things on track, handling all of the commercial breaks and helping to dissipate the shouting between hosts IMO.

It is *her* show in that she has something to do with the production of it (I'm too lazy to go research the specifics, sorry - she's either the "creator" or "executive producer") But she has never been the main talker. As I recall, the person who has physically occupied the seat that Whoopie is in today has always been the main talker. Almost like the moderator. But I am sure that when the cameras are off, everyone has to answer to Barbara eventually.

Barbara is one of the Executive Producers. She is only on the show part-time, she is in her late 70's. Whoppi is the "moderator" (before her Rosie, before her Meredith Viera).

Okay - that makes sense.. Whoopi certainly does seem to be able to maintain control and get things done in an orderly fashion..
