For the past few years, The Dis family has given me help and lots of inspiration. I really do feel like we are a family of sorts,
all of us helping each other out.

For me, now is the time of all those emotional ups and downs of impending menopause. It only just occured to me this morning that there might be a message board out there that women can write messages to each other for emotional support.
You know........a place where you can ask " What worked for you ?"

Does anyone know of such an internet message board ?

Thanks so much !

"It's getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes" .:o Sorry, not to make light of the situation. Just thought I would try and make you smile. I don't know of an official support board, but if I know the people of THIS board, you will get LOTS of support.;)

Hi Claudia! I am not sure about an official message board, but give www.ivillage.com a try. They have a lot of information for women on there.
The ups and downs of menopause can be tough. I know from experience, but hang in there!:D

Thanks for the support. So far, If the hot flash is while I am home, I just take off my shirt. (there's just my DH and myself).

If the hot flash is at work, I spray my face, neck, ears, and hair with a slight mist of water, and use my battery operated fan on my desk.

But also, I could cry at the drop of a hat, and my DH....
one of these days I'm going to lose my cool and choke him !

P.S. Already I feel a little better !

Claudia, I found a great one a couple of years ago when I went through "instant menopause" at 44 with a complete hysterectomy. Problem is it is geared to the surgical as opposed to natural menopause. There is a ton of info on hormones and hormone replacement therapy on there though, and a board geared to non-drug relief for the common symptoms like hot flashes. And perhaps you'd find a link to inof just on "natural" as opposed to surgical menopause.
It's hystersisters.com

Keep in mind "this too shall pass" :) hang in there!

Claudia, I'm going through perimenopause now and I can relate. I'm only 38, but already have the night sweats and mood swings (I too, can cry at nothing, out of the blue). I'm taking a "cocktail" of herbs that are supposed to reduce all this aggravation, and I find it's working, but it's costing me. I did research on the internet on herbs and talked to some people at GNC. Just another avenue you might want to try. In the meantime, just remember - you're not alone! :D Oh, and SOY! That's universally known to help. :D

are wonderful!

The main boards area at

http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/index.php?s= has a listing of many boards - many of which are particular to surgical menopause, others are not.

The hormone jungle http://www.hormonejungle.com/ has excellent information, and is related to the hystersisters boards.

For those who cannot take hormones, there is the no-hormone desert oasis board at the same sites.

Search feature too, so happy reading!

It gets easier, Claudia. I started through menopause when I was in my late 30's. The hot flashes have just about disappeared now and I never had the weepy spells. I'm just lucky, I guess.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

This is the second time I've heard hot flash............we Aussies call it a hot flush;)

I'm not clicking on ANY of those links. :)

Hope things go well for all those having tough days. :sunny:

This thread really caught my eye! Last week I thought I was sick. I kept getting hot--heat like nooo other--then cool off. (And it hasn't stopped!) :( I thought something was wrong with me, then it finally dawned on me. Duh! 51 YO and finally getting these "heat spells." I've always hated being warm, but now--yikes! I feel as though I might scorch my clothes! This is not pleasant. I have to check out some of those web sites for some suggestions.

RE: soy, does anyone know how much should be taken to be effective? TIA

I had a hysterectomy when I was 24, and started taking Estradial.
I did really great until two years ago when my Dr wanted to experiment with lowering the dosage. She cut my dose from 2mg to .05mg. It was horrible! I don't know what was worse, the hot flashes, or crying at all the sappy commericals on T.V. The coffee commercials got me every time. Well, after a couple of months I went back to the Dr. and BEGGED for her to give me back my meds. My husband was VERY, VERY, VERY, HAPPY! He had just about decided to trade me in for a new car! Maybe sometime in the far far future, I will try again.?!
