The Unofficial guide to WDW 2007.
any one read it??
i got it for my mom for christmas this year, because our whole family is going next year for christmas. and shes never been there. she seems to like it.
i was just wondering if it helps or if its just going to confuse her or something like that :confused3
ive been there twice with my grandparents.

The UG is my fav! Lots of info and very well written. That being said, some people think it is too negative, particularly about the restaurants. However, when the authors don't like something they will quote folks on both sides of the issue, so it comes out being pretty balanced. I don't think it will confuse her, many people just have no idea how huge WDW is and how much there is to do before they go. The UG spells it all out, but not in a confusing way.

I'm a huge fan of the UOG! I bought the 2006 one and I'm sitting on the fence about buying the 2007 one. It's worth is for the touring plans! I'm also a TGM'er but I don't like the looks of his touing plans. I'd much rather use the UOG's go here, go there attitude. If you're looking for a great touring plan I'd be buying this book in a heart beat! HTH!!!

ok good.
because she seems to like it. she got stickt notes popping out of just about every page

I would also suggest the Passporter guide to WDW.I have both for 2007 and have had them before.the Passporter is very easy to look up info and has great maps and ride info. She can also find out about the shows that we really enjoy. If you are staying at a WDW resort make sure your mom knows how to use the bus system so that she can go back and rest or meet you somewhere later. This will make her feel more independant and insure her having a great trip.:goodvibes

hmm i'll have to see if i can find those then.

were staying at SSR. my grand parents are DVC members.

Oh yes it's the best book EVER! I think it's a little humorous as well. I bought it since we are going for the first time in Feb and I actually feel like I have some grasp on the whole thing.

I love it! I buy a new edition every year, although not a whole lot changes from one year to the next ... I found the DISboards through the Unofficial Guide.

Slightly tangent but if I've got the 2006 edition would you guys recommend getting the 2007 edition? I'd almost just buy it for the touring plans...they're awesome! I know that I can head to the UOG website and subscribe there to get the same plans but I think I may want the book too. Thoughts? Plus I've got $40 to blow at Chapters (its a Canadian bookstore...)

I've got the 2007 edition and love it. I really think the tips and ideas are great. Can't compare it to any other versions though because I've never seen any.

I agree the PassPorter is an excellent tool. I got my first one at Borders in 2003. It has every thing you need to organize and plan, and the ratings are pretty much on the mark (since each place is rated by 3 seperate people). You can purchase one on-line at passporter.com, not too expensive either, my 2007 was about $25.00 total (book, S&H)

We used the 2006 UG for our last trip and found it very helpful - not confusing at all. We used some of the touring plan tips and didn't wait in any lines longer than 15 min. We also found the hotel and restaurant info/reviews helpful as well as the explanations of the rides/attractions.

ok cool. it makes me feel better that everyone says its good.
it was an inpulse purchase, i seen it and thought of her right away.
and ive been reading it too, and i really like it. :thumbsup2

We got the UG for a Christmas gift and I've started to read it. Not very far in yet but almost first 100 pages under my belt. It is very well written and I love the fact that he puts others thoughts into it (i.e.people that write into him about their experience)

We found that as you are reading through it and something jumps out at you as a good tip - to highlight it and then you can go back over them later. Each person that reads the book could highlight in a different color because I'm sure one person might be more interested in food, another in certain rides, parks, hotels.

Hope she enjoys the reading :)

I've bought the 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006 editions and have worn each one out! Not only is the UG a fantastic planning guide (can't have too much information or too many details!), but reading after the trip brings it all back and reminds me of the things I want to try "next time."

I have also used the Passporter for my kids' birthday trips. I love the charts that tell approximately how long each attraction will take, as well as the pockets in the back to organize each day's receipts or whatever. The kids like looking back at our daily entries in that section, too.

No.. I had the 2006 and bought the 2007 and it's practically identical.. same quotes, stories, etc. I wouldn't recommend buying it if you already have the 2006.

I'm a big UG fan! I love the fact that they give lots of ratings on things like hotels, restaurants, etc. (which most other guides do not do). They do quite a bit of research to figure out those ratings, and often include readers' comments and opinions, too.

You might not always agree with everything they say, but it's nice to have some idea of which restaurants to skip, etc.
