The unexpected toy your kids loved

For us it was the Disney fireworks launcher. They didn't ask for it, we found it last minute on sale and thought it was cute. But they really love it, they found it really entertaining. I suppose part of the reason is they like to play together, and most things are either geared towards DD or DS, but rarely both.

So what did your kids love that was unexpected for Christmas? Unexpected being either by you or them.

For DS, it was "wall climbing ninjas" that I got for $1 at Dollar General. They are about 3" tall and have sticky hands and feet. You toss them against the wall and gravity pulls them down the wall. He has played with those more than anything! And he got Jake's pirate ship, a leapster, the Bat Cave. I could've spent $1 on those ninja's and that was all he needed!

For DD, she got fashion glasses from Justice that cost my grandma $3 on clearance. She has not taken them off since Christmas Eve when she got them. I asked her what her favorite gift was--the Barbie house?--the Easy Bake Oven?--she said those were "awesome" but said her favorite was her glasses. :rotfl:

For my 4 and 6 year old sons and 36 year old husband... it was a Melissa and Doug Magic Trick Set. The three of them have spent all day making me watch their tricks! :)

:lmao:And to think we go nuts for months tracking down their "favorite" toys at the best price.

Eviltron. DD13 has hidden it somewhere in the living room -- every 5-10 minutes there's a little voice: "Can you hear me?"

It has been the Little People Disney Princess castle and the talking Boo doll for DD. The Skylanders and Zelda games for DS.

For DS18, it was the $25 ukelele I got him. We were in guitar center probably 6 months ago and he mentioned he thought it would be fun to have one. He picked out most everything he got, but was so excited when he opened the ukelele. He has a real ear for music and has several high end guitars. He taught himself several songs as soon as he figured out how to tune it.

The clearance Loopz game I found at Target. I knew my youngest would love it and he does! It was a spur of the moment purchase a couple of months ago.

Their other favorite is they each got a 12 pack of their favorite soda. We don't drink soda here - it's a special treat so they were thrilled that Santa brought them some! LOL

My ds7 has been having so much fun with a bucket of snowballs (plush) that was bought at a Hallmark store. He hasn't put them down! Those, and the Angry Bird maze coloring book. All of the expensive and hard-to-find toys have been barely touched.

At Five Below I picked up an Origami set. My girls have been busy creating paper animals, plants, boats and more.

the girl (7) has loved her headband making set, and playdoh pizza maker, but she loved the $3 how to draw dogas and wolves (wolf obsessed).
the boy (10) predictably is adoring every video game he asked for, but also loves perplexus, since I thought it was close enough to a video game challenge it might work!

I had to look this up. Best laugh I have had in months! I was crying laughing. Must do this to DH. Think I'll plant it in our car (when I am with him so he doesn't wreck!). :rotfl:

Dd LOVES her AG doll (which was to be expected) but the best is the Visa giftcards she received from both sets of her great-grandparents. "Mom, I can't wait to go shopping at the mall tomorrow, I'm going to buy the WHOLE place! I'm rich! AND I have a bank account!" She's in 7th heaven over the idea that she now has "debit cards"
