Thursday May 6th - Departure Day
We all set our alarm clocks for 05.00am as we were getting picked up by our mini bus at 05.30am. Everything was set, cases packed, clothes ready for off and house all tidy. As the dreaded ash cloud had made a re-appearance at the start of the week, we put on Sky News to see were it was up too
Thankfully, they were reporting that Manchester Airport was still, at present, open!
So we were off!
Our mini-bus collected us and we headed off to Terminal 2 for some breakfast. The boys all had massive English breakfasts, myself a normal one, and my Mum, ever the good one of us all, fruit and a cup of tea! We sat around until 09.45am waiting and hoping for that ash to stay away! As that time ticked around, we were called to begin boarding!
I don't think I've ever been as relieved.
Our flight with Virgin was pretty good, took off on time, food & drink was fine and the 8hrs 20mins passed relatively quickly (I did manage to pass a couple of hours with The Princess & The Frog!)! We landed in Orlando International to a massive downpour and thunderstorms
We were stranded on the airport waiting area until it cleared, which was for about 45 minutes.
We picked up our fantastic car once through all the security jazz and set off in the direction of All Star Sports - our home for the next 16 nights!
I swear I could have cried when I finally saw this...
We checked into ASSp at around 6pm Florida time and were greeted with a little pixie dust as we were told we'd been upgraded to a preferred room
We found ourselves in Surf's Up, Building 6 and it was fantastic to get to everything. Very close to everything we needed. We put our luggage into the two rooms we had and I headed straight off to the shop for a Disney fix and to check with front desk to see if my surprise had arrived for my family
My parcel was over at ASMu but I was assured it'd be over here very soon
With that, we headed off to I-Drive and grabbed ourselves some food from Denny's - well, we did when we eventually found it
Being 12 years since my Mum and Dad last navigated over there, it took a while to get their bearings again!
After a short walk around I-Drive we decided to call it a night and head back to our rooms. We got back to the rooms and my family were greeted with this...
I'd arranged this prior to heading over there to surprise my Mum, Dad and Brother, a sort of 'Welcome Home' gift after such a long absence! I'd put Mickey in there, a re-usable mug (for my Mum, who also claimed Mickey
) and two starter kit lanyards for my Dad and Brother, who'd both mentioned they'd like to pin trade this trip. They all loved their gifts and they got pride of place on their table for the evening
I was very pleased!
Then it was time for bed, we'd nearly done 24 hours awake
And it was an early start for day two....
PS. Sorry for all the writing...seems I've gone on a bit, hope you don't mind! And there's more photo's to come - I promise!
1st trip report and all that...hopefully I'll get used to it!
