The ultimate split-stay thread

Decided to spread our driving a bit differently so we arrive the night before we were planning - and add that extra night at a value to make it a 4-way split (Movies 1 night, Poly for 4, Yacht Club for 3, GF for 4). After our last split went so well, it feels odd to only stay at one place ;)

Another question I need help with. Sorry if I missed it somewhere. When my window to book dining, etc. opens at 180 days, it's based on my arrival date of my 1st reservation. Can I at that point also book for the 2nd part of my reservation? or do I need to wait until its 180 days from my arrival date of 2nd reservation.

You will need to wait until it's 180 days from the arrival of the 2nd reservation to make the ADRs for that part unfortunately.

Thank you!

I would like to make a correction to this. Apparently you can make all of the Fastpasses for the whole trip on a split stay. I just did it this morning on the phone app!!! I was always told you couldn't.

I'm sorry if you received erroneous information somewhere, but, thankfully, you have always been able to make FPes from the first day throughout a split stay. Your room reservation simply opens the window for your 60 days, and then the amount of FP days you can schedule is tied to the length of your ticket, not the length of your stay (which is the reason why people staying off property started booking throwaway reservations for one night only).

ADRs are tied to your resort reservation only. Previously, a CM could override the system and make ADRs for your entire length of stay up to 10 days, but within the past year, Disney changed their policy and now only allow 180 days + length of stay (up to 10 days) for EACH reservation.

I was coming here to ask the same question so thank you! Now I only have to stay up once, tomorrow night!

Hi all -- thank you so much for sharing all of the tips and answers - such a helpful thread!

We are doing our first split stay in Feb-Mar. We are doing Poly (1 night, renting DVC), Swan or Dolphin (3 nights), and then WL (2 nights, renting DVC). I bought 5day park hoppers. As far as I can tell, we should be able to book all FP for the days of our trip starting 60 days before we check-in to Poly. We can just personalize and have shipped 1 set of magic bands, and have our luggage transferred by bell services.

Anything else we need to be planning for in terms of a split stay that involves renting of DVC points? Or a stay the Swan/Dolphin?

Wow looking forward to reading all of this thread as I am thinking of a split stay in July as we want to AoA and then Beach Club kids are 17 and 20!! with no car and I want to do the dining plan so thinking of just a 1 day ticket and 2 nights at AoA then 5 or 6 nights at BC when I called they said I can only get one package with a discount as I have a come back offer thanks! So then the only way to get mugs to work is to buy them out right with no dining plan or is to do 2 separate dining plans? correct? thanks!!

There are ticketless packages. I was able to book my first part as a package, room, tics, dining and my 2nd part as room, dining only.

I think you have everything covered! Just keep in mind that the number of days you can book FP reservations is tied to the length of your ticket, so just be aware that you will only able to make FP reservations for 5 days since your window will be opening soon! :) Enjoy your trip!

Like Alwaysmom said, you can do a ticketless dining plan on your second reservation if you'd like. But also keep in mind that your mug will work on the second part of your stay in case you would prefer to not book the dining plan for that reservation.

Has anyone had any luck using their tickets from a second res. a day early for a room only? I was told by a cast member and guest relations (by phone) that you can use your tickets up to 5 days early. They said I don't need to do anything and just go through the turnstiles as usual. But now that my trip is approaching, I'm getting very nervous that it won't be so easy. I would love to hear if anyone has done this recently.

Thank you for this reminder -- I forgot about that!

WOW! I did not realize that you could use you mug on the second part of stay. Are all the mugs the same now or are they different at each resort?

I believe all the mugs are the same, regardless of resort.

Awww that's a bummer. I was hoping for different mugs.

** So I just looked up the mugs. There cool. We will be spending a day resort hopping. Nice that I can bring it along for beverages.

We are considering a split stay for our March Break trip.
I have read through the first info part of this thread and understand it probably need to be 2 reservations.

My question is:
For second resort stay, do I book room only and add the ticketless DDP through phone? Is the ticketless DDP still available for booking?
DH is keener for simplicity. It would be a deal-breaker if the second part couldn't have DDP.

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

If you book a room only then change to a package you have to cancel and rebook can't just change over. Deposits are refunded not applied. I booked both ressies via phone. Much easier to just call and book a package with tickets & dining & a ticketless package with dining which isn't available online. Plus remember to have them linked.

*Cross posting*

I usually pride myself in keeping up to date but my brain is overloaded right now!
I am planning my first split stay for Aug. 2016 which will be Shades of Green 7/30-8/2 (technically off site) then Poly 8/2-8/9.

Am I correct that I will be able to make my ADRs at 180 days from 7/30 but only able to do one day at a time until I hit 180 days from the first day of my Poly stay when I can make them for the remainder of my stay?

Similarly for FP+ I think I can make them 60 days from first day at the Poly until the end of stay and then at 30 days from my SOG portion on a rolling day at a time basis.

All this has me so confused! Thanks to anybody who can simplify this for me!

Edited to add: I was told that I will be able to make all FP+ at 60 days out from my Poly stay, including the previous days at SOG. (Yay for that!) Will the ADRs work as I think? One day at a time until I hit 180 from my Poly stay and then I will be able to make them through the end of stay? Thanks so much for the help as always! :)
